Meet the candidates: Lewis County Fire District 13, commissioner position three

Oct. 27—Boistfort-area voters have a choice between two candidates for position three on the board of commissioners for Lewis County Fire District 13 (LCFD 13): incumbent Jereme Chapman and challenger Justin Shoemaker.

Chapman began serving on the board in January 2018 and was elected to a four-year term in 2019, according to the Lewis County Auditor's Office.

Chapman did not submit information to the Lewis County Voters Guide. The following information was obtained through the Lewis County Economic Alliance's website, which lists Chapman as an active board member.

Chapman currently works as a professional licensed land surveyor and principal at KPFF Consulting Engineers in Lacey, where he has worked for the past 15 years. He lives in the Boistfort Valley area with his wife, Misty, and two daughters, Bailey and Carmen.

Shoemaker did submit information to the Lewis County Voters Guide, which is summarized below.

Shoemaker graduated from W.F. West High School in 2014 and Centralia College in 2016. He currently works as a firefighter and EMT with Lewis County Fire District 15 in Winlock and serves with the Olympia Mountaineers Climbing Association. He has over seven -and-a-half years of fire experience, which includes six years' service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with Lewis County Fire District 6. He received a Firefighter/EMT of the Year award in 2016. He received a Washington Emergency Medical Service Provider of the Year award from the Washington Firefighter's Association in 2017.

"As your fire commissioner for LCFD 13, I will ensure our Boistfort community receives the highest level of fire protection and emergency medical service available," Shoemaker said in a written statement submitted to the Lewis County Voters Guide. "With our local area's current challenges, we need a motivated commissioner that will hear from the community, understand your needs and take action. Serving my community is one of my strongest passions. From the age of 19, I have served in an official capacity with the Lewis County fire service, and I wish to continue that service within the fire district I reside. With my experience as a professional active firefighter, I am well suited to help our fire department and better provide for our citizens."

The 18-day voting period began on Oct. 20. Ballots are due by 8 p.m. on Nov. 7. Learn more at https://elections.lewiscountywa.gov.
