Corinne Quillin Henry, a 2010 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and resident of the village, has always loved dogs, and longed for a golden retriever as a child.

However, she suffered from allergies and thought having one might worsen them.

In the past few years, she has discovered that goldendoodles are hypoallergenic and inherit less shedding as a common trait.

Now with two female goldendoodles – named Punkin and Rue – she and her family have been able to experience the love and joy dogs bring to a family.

This is one reason Henry recently decided to share goldendoodle love with those looking for these special pets. Punkin and Rue have each had a litter of puppies, and Henry found perfect homes for each one through The Doggone Doodle Co.

Henry and her husband, Mike, an Indian Vally graduate, have three children – Corbin, 12, Weston, 6, and Lillian, 3. Her passion is being a stay-at-home mom. In addition to foldendoodles, the Henrys also have chickens and goats. Henry loves to be outside, and she raises a large garden in the summer.

When in the kitchen, Henry cans and makes everything possible from scratch. Mike Henry works full-time but likes to spend free time in his workshop making items to help support and maintain their mini farm. The Henrys are involved with their children’s dance, school and sporting activities, and are active members of the Light in the Valley Church.

TELL US ABOUT GOLDENDOODLES – Goldendoodles have recently become increasingly popular as family pets. They are a mix of a retriever and poodle, known for being friendly, lovable and intelligent.  Other benefits are that they are very trainable and excellent with both other dogs and children. Punkin and Rue love attention, and it doesn’t matter what you are doing, they will find a way to get a head scratch or some snuggle time.

HOW DID YOU COME TO SHARE YOUR LOVE OF GOLDENDOODLES WITH OTHER FAMILIES? – Mike’s cousin first mentioned the fact that we should have puppies after being around Punkin and Rue on many occasions. I thought about it and liked the idea. First, I dug in and learned everything I could about goldendoodles. After reading every book I could get my hands on and searching the internet endlessly, we gave it a try. This is something we won’t do as often as breeders because our intention isn’t to make a living from them. They are first and foremost our family pets. But when we do have puppies, they will be sold at affordable prices. If for some reason one would not be chosen, we would have another family pet.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR RECENT LITTER OF PUPPIES – Rue’s mini goldendoodles went to their forever homes in March. She was the proud mommy of four beautiful girls and three handsome boys, all with gorgeous coloring. Retrievers only come in three colors, but with Poodles having many more color options, goldendoodles’ coats can be red or what most doodle people call apricot, brown, black-silver-gray or what is referred to as merle, blue-grey and cream just to name a few. The puppies were quite popular and chosen quickly. I feel the reasons for this are the puppies are born into a family environment with our kids loving on them right away. As soon as possible, I begin some initial training such as walking on a leash, introducing them to bath time, different textures such as carpet, plus sounds like the vacuum.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CONTACT YOU, AND WHEN WILL YOU HAVE A NEW LITTER OF GOLDENDOODLES? – My Facebook page is The Doggone Doodle Co., and I update it often. You may message me there or email me at Corinne.quillin@yahoo.com. We are hoping Punkin will be having puppies this summer, and I do keep my Facebook followers up to date when we have a new litter. Pictures are posted of each one, showing off their color and sweet little personalities.

WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT? – This has been an incredible journey for our family. I feel it is very important for children to experience having a pet, as it teaches them so much about life. For me, it doesn’t end when the puppy leaves our house, as often the new owner will contact me for training tips or send me a picture of their goldendoodle, and it makes my day. It has been a joy to love and nurture Rue and Punkin’s puppies for the first several weeks of their lives, and I have cherished each one.
