Editor's note: This is one of a series of articles previewing candidates vying in the April 4 consolidated election. Early voting is underway.

Outside of his full-time job as a financial advisor with Cornerstone Financial Services, David Yankee is involved in many public service and community service roles in Springfield. He's an advocate for foster children, serves on several non-profit boards and has served in various roles for other non-profits.

With that in mind, he thinks he can do more to help those in need; thus, he's put his hat in the ring for the contest in Ward 4 of the Springfield City Council.

"Everything I'm doing is great and it's helping them, but it's not enough," Yankee said. "I feel there needs to be some more interference from the top and I don't see that happening as much with social agencies."

Yankee and two other candidates – former Sangamon County Board member Jason Ratts and former city employee Larry Rockford – are competing to replace the retiring John Fulgenzi, who is leaving the council after eight years.
