Meet the dogs of Robinson’s Rescue Best in Sheaux

Editors note: This year Times photographer Henrietta Wildsmith's puppy will be walking in the runway show.

The nonprofit organization, Robinson’s Rescue, has been offering low-cost spay and neuters in Shreveport since 2005. Their annual fundraiser Best in Sheaux is Saturday, March 12, at Riverview Hall. The event features a live runway dog show with local dogs vying for $5 votes.

Meet the royal court of 2022.

Beanie is a lovable mix of pomeranian, poodle, spitz and Gordon setter owned by Patti Hunsicker of Ark La Tex Therapy Dogs. Beanie was found on a cold and rainy night in the middle of the road. She was a scruffy little pup that was in desperate need of tender loving care. Fast forward six years and Beanie had grown out the most luxurious fur coat and became certified as a therapy dog. She takes her duties very seriously and treats all of her patients with the same TLC her mom gave to her. Beanie is a true rags to riches story and has made it her life's mission to pay it forward. Beanie loves to go for rides in the car, and you can catch her hanging out of the window with her fabulous hair blowing in the wind. She knows that car rides lead to one of her two favorite things-therapy visits or Dairy Queen. When Beanie isn't busy visiting patients or chowing down on a delicious treat, you can find her playing with her menagerie of toys. Beanie likes to show off her mischievous side by always pulling their squeakers and stuffing out.

Dory is an outgoing, self-proclaimed "wannabe lab" owned by Courtney Wingate. Would you believe over 15 different dog breeds showed up on her DNA test? Dory was found abandoned on the highway as a tiny puppy, and immediately bonded with her mom. One of Dory's best tricks is saying "I love you" back to her. Dory's vivacious energy will keep you on your toes. Don't let her age fool you. She is an active girl who is always ready to play with her ball. Another one of her favorite activities is swimming. She loves it so much you would think she was a fish. Hence her name- Dory. While Dory is usually easy-going, windshield wipers are her archenemy, so car rides are out of the question if it's raining. She goes nuts. Dory is a happy-go-lucky girl who is living her life to the fullest.

Dottie

Dottie is a Jack Russell terrier, owned by Biskie Duncan, who is part of the Robinson's Rescue 2022 Best in Sheaux homecoming court.

Dottie is a precious Jack Russell terrier owned by Biskie Duncan. Dottie's mom and dad found her abandoned and injured outside of their farm in Tennessee. She was a little shy at first, but soon warmed up to her new family and realized she hit the jackpot. Specifically, the corndog jackpot. Those are her absolute favorite. Dottie even faked an injury once just to return to the vet for another corndog. Don't let her tiny size fool you. Dottie thinks she's tough and will bark at anyone who dares to walk in front of her house. She considers herself antisocial, but she is definitely a momma's girl, and always looks forward to a good snuggle. Dottie enjoys her walks and trips to Lowe's, but her two toys have an extra special place in her heart- her fox that lives in the bed and her raccoon that lives on the couch. And don't you ever mix them up. It's Dottie's world and everyone else is just living in it.

Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr is a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd, owned by Derek Simmons, who is part of the Robinson's Rescue 2022 Best in Sheaux homecoming court.

Hedy Lamarr is a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd owned by Derek Simmons, and she is as sophisticated and beautiful as her namesake. The Simmons family was looking for a new puppy that would fit perfectly into their busy lives along with their 2-year-old son, and they couldn't have chosen a better dog. Hedy is a patient and doting girl, who is happiest when everyone is in the room together. She will find a spot in the center of the action and sprawl out while the kids play all over her. When Hedy's had enough, she'll make her way to her most treasured possession- a plush fish taco. There's nothing she loves more than playing fetch with her favorite toy. She'll even throw it and chase it herself when everyone else is done! When Hedy's not busy playing with her taco or her human siblings, you can find her at her dad's shop. She's a signature shop dog, greeting everyone with a sniff and a smile. When you see Hedy, pet her while you can, because after a quick hello she dutifully returns to her post behind the counter.

Leia

Leia is a fiercely loyal Australian shepherd owned by Joel and Kristen Wade and sponsored by Great Raft Brewing. Her love knows no bounds and she will follow you wherever you go. This is even true when it comes to bedtime. Leia sleeps on the pillow next to her dad's head every single night. Her parents mean the world to her, but her three dog sisters are her best friends. Leia loves to keep everyone together and will even herd her family into one room when she doesn't want them to be separated. She's such a clever girl! On a beautiful day, you can catch Leia playing outside and catching frisbees. If you play with her, be forewarned, you will have to use all of your strength because she does not let go of that frisbee easily! Leia is a special girl who brings an incredible amount of joy to her family and everyone she meets.

Lilly is a vivacious pitbull puppy owned by Maurice White and Henrietta Wildsmith. Lilly's mom and her newspaper did a story on a homeless pregnant dog that had been rescued, and she knew she had to adopt one of the puppies. From the streets to a warm, welcoming home, Lilly is now living her best life with her new family. This feisty and energetic pup loves to chase after the cats in her house and keeps everyone on their toes. If you ask Lilly kindly, she will gladly "sit" for a delicious treat, but it better be a Trader Joe's biscuit. There is no shortage of enthusiasm with this bubbly little ray of sunshine. Lilly's family is quickly reminded of just how much she loves them every time they walk through the door. Lilly also enjoys hanging out with her two best friends- her big brother Outlaw, and her kitten sister Lucy. Lilly is an adorable little puppy who is so grateful to be a part of her new family.

Lily is an incredibly happy goldendoodle owned by Kelly and Tony Stuart. She joined the Stuart household during the pandemic, bringing bright energy to the family during unprecedented times. While Tony was gone a lot like a first responder, Lily's relationship with her new mom blossomed and she quickly became Kelly's little shadow and best friend. She is a wonderful girl who has brought so much joy to her human and furry family. She loves to spend time with her fur brothers Griffin and Winston, and play with her toys, especially her white and red unicorn. There is no shortage of energy when it comes to Lily. This fun-loving girl will play fetch non-stop and looks most forward to rides in the car for a Starbucks Puppuccino. But beware if you join her on the ride- Princess Lily always claims the front seat. No questions asked!

Louie Roux

Louie Roux is a French bulldog, owned by Shannon and Frank Sale, who is part of the Robinson's Rescue 2022 Best in Sheaux homecoming court.

Louie Roux is a spunky French bulldog owned by Shannon and Frank Sale. He was originally with a family who did not have enough time to dedicate to him, but Louie Roux is now living the high life with his new mom and dad. Each day he looks forward to exciting car rides, playing with all of his fancy toys, and would you guess his favorite pastime? Watching TV. Louie Roux is partial to westerns, and currently, he is very into Yellowstone. Yeehaw, Louie Roux! When Louie Roux isn't calmly watching his favorite show, you can find him zipping through his house at lightning speed. You would think he has jetpacks attached to his paws. Louie Roux is an incredibly affectionate little guy who considers everyone a friend. One flash of his big smile and you immediately feel special. Due to hyperdontia, Louie Roux even has an extra row of bottom teeth to dazzle you with!

Lulu is a playful bernedoodle owned by Moss Duvall and sponsored by Pelican Tents & Events. She is incredibly friendly and there is nothing Lulu enjoys more than going to work with her parents to visit all of the customers and staff. Her favorite part of a workday? When the staff sneaks her biscuits while dad's not looking! Lulu loves to be on the move and meet everyone. There's no doubt she's a people-pup. One of Lulu's favorite activities is playing outside with her human siblings, but her most favorite is wrestling with her best friend and kitty sibling, Jumper. Lulu and her buddy Jumper are a match made in cat and dog heaven! Lulu may be sweet, but she also has a naughty side. One night while her family was preparing dinner, Lulu helped herself to three entire cuts of filet mignon by counter-surfing her way there. Now that's a bold move! Lulu is an adventurous and silly girl stealing her family's hearts one (sneaky) bite at a time.

Milla is a very sweet Lab/Catahoula mix owned by Scot Arundel of Apex Roofing Solutions, LLC, and sponsored by Bobbie Cates Hicks. While her dad was attending a previous Best in Sheaux, he spotted Milla in the shelter showcase of adoptable dogs and immediately fell in love. Talk about a Best in Sheaux fairytale story. Milla now spends her days playing with any toy that squeaks and befriending any human that's nearby. She absolutely loves people and has never met a stranger. Milla's guilty pleasure is a funny one-frozen meatball. While she will sit patiently for her favorite frozen treat, you better not leave food on the counter unattended. Milla's a magician. She'll make it disappear! Milla is one truly special girl who has stolen her dad's heart with her bright and friendly personality.

Murphy

Murphy is a jovial and carefree mini goldendoodle owned by Deb Badt. Murphy may be considered mini, but he doesn't let his size stop him. His family knows that he rules the roost! Murphy enjoys sitting on his throne (the couch) and keeping a close eye on his kingdom (the backyard). He watches all of the wildlife and activity in the lake and makes sure that everyone is on their best behavior. When Murphy isn't busy surveying his kingdom, he is off jet-setting with his mom. Murphy is a great traveling companion and will even take you for a walk. Murphy will grab ahold of the leash with his paw like he's the one walking his mom. He likes to think he's in charge. Murphy loves the old-school Milkbone dog treats, but his favorite snack is the scrambled egg his mom prepares for him every day. Once Murphy has had his fill, he makes his way to his massive collection of toys. He's always sure to give each one attention, but the ones that mean the most to him are his cuddle bears that have a heartbeat and warming pad. Murphy has snuggled, played and slept with them since he was a tiny puppy, and he still takes one with him wherever he goes. Murphy is a precious little guy who has brought so much joy to his family.

Penny Lane is an adorable dachshund owned by Anna Gleason and Ben O'Bryan and sponsored by RBM LLP CPAs. Her parents adopted her after sadly losing their 17-year-old dachshund, and she so perfectly filled the weenie dog-sized holes in their hearts. They quickly realized Penny Lane is independent. She is a stubborn wild child that knows exactly how to get her way, and her greatest trick is acting like she can't hear you. When Penny Lane isn't busy giving the stink-eye she loves to go for walks and chase squirrels. It's a personal life goal of hers to bark at every single cat that lives in Highland. Now that's a lot of cats! As tough as Penny Lane likes to act, she lights up like a Christmas tree every time her parents come home and snuggling with them on the couch is the highlight of her day. Penny Lane is one precious little pup that undoubtedly enjoys living her life on her own terms.
