Meet the Fighting Irish: Notre Dame depth chart against Ohio State

The last time Notre Dame played a football game, the Fighting Irish lost 37-35 to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. That was the first game under head coach Marcus Freeman, a former Ohio State linebacker who was promoted from defensive coordinator after Brian Kelly left South Bend for LSU.

And while the Fiesta Bowl may have been more than nine months ago, Week 1 will look quite familiar to Notre Dame.

The No. 5 Irish play No. 2 Ohio State in Ohio Stadium. It's a rematch of the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, which Ohio State won. It's a home coming for Freeman, who played in the mid-2000s. And it's a rematch against Jim Knowles, who was the Oklahoma State defensive coordinator during that New Year's Six bowl game.

Notre Dame has a new starting quarterback as they take on the Buckeyes in Tyler Bucher but they return several talented players, including possibly the best tight end in the country in Michael Mayer.
