Meet the Founders of Common Man for Ukraine at Rotary Club Breakfast

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Two New Hampshire men who have raised more than $3 million to aid war-affected children in Ukraine will speak at a Rotary Club breakfast meeting on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Berwick Academy.

Steve Rand and Alex Ray, founders of “Common Man for Ukraine,” will share their experiences and projects with the South Berwick-Eliot Rotary Club, which is hosting the free event at 7:15 a.m. in the Cafeteria Building. The club will also raise funds for the nonprofit at its annual geo quiz on March 22 at Great Works School.

Common Man for Ukraine was formed after Rand and Ray asked fellow Rotarians in the Plymouth Rotary Club to connect them with the Rotary Club in Zamosc, Poland. The men and their wives connected with Rotary clubs in Poland and Ukraine and toured potential projects that needed funding, including refugee centers, makeshift orphanages and counseling centers.

Ray offered matching donations from the Common Man and the two couples matched the first $1 million raised.

The organization has delivered 900 tons of food, 10,000 sleeping bags, hundreds of generators, a bloodmobile and more than $400,000 for a trauma center to provide counseling to children.
