Meet Framingham High School's new principal who will start this fall

FRAMINGHAM  Amy Gerade, who was named acting principal at Framingham High School when Carolyn Banach went on leave earlier this school year, has been named to the job permanently effective July 1, according to Superintendent of Schools Robert Tremblay.

Banach, who has been principal at the high school for six years, is retiring at the end of this school year, Tremblay said in a press release.

“It was evident during my nine-day residency at FHS that Dr. Gerade, currently the acting principal, has already established positive relationships with students, staff, and families,” Tremblay said in a statement. “Dr. Gerade continues to refine systems and structures to improve operations at FHS and, based on our many conversations, she has a forward vision for FHS that aims to create new opportunities for students while simultaneously addressing space utilization challenges among other leadership skills that would serve her well in the role that she has already been carrying out since the fall of 2022.”

'Not likely to come back':Framingham High Principal Carolyn Banach extends leave

Banach, who was hired ahead of the 2017-18 school year, has been on family medical leave since the fall. Tremblay told the Daily News in January that she had extended that leave until the end of the school year and that "she's not likely to come back."

Before coming to Framingham, Banach was principal at Milford High School, also under Tremblay.

"I've hired her twice as principal," Tremblay told the Daily News previously. He was superintendent in Milford (and then Weston) prior to coming to Framingham.

In addition to her current role as acting principal, Gerade is the district's director of curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Framingham High School has about 2,500 students in grades 9-12.
