Meet Global Learning Charter Public School's Top 10 graduates of 2023
NEW BEDFORD — The following students were named to the Top 10 of Global Learning Charter Public School's class of 2023.
1. Haley Marie Bedard, Valedictorian, will be attending the University of New Haven majoring in marine biology with the goal of becoming a marine biologist. Activities include teacher’s assistant (two years), National Honor Society, Senior class vice president, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Photography Club, Volleyball Club, and Yearbook Committee. Played flute in the competitive Massachusetts Music Educators Association Southeastern District performances each of her high school years; chosen 2nd chair in 2022. Haley's parents are Rebekah and David Bedard.
2. Maddox Marie Merrey, Salutatorian, will be attending the University of New Haven majoring in biology and a minor in marine biology with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. Activities include teacher’s assistant (two years), National Honor Society, Senior class president, Student Ambassador, Photography Club, red/blue belt in the martial art of Tang Soo Do, Volleyball Club, and Yearbook Committee. Recipient of the Jacobs Family Scholarship. Maddox's parents are Heather and Eric Chew.
3. Paige Nicole Souza will be attending Salem State University majoring in criminal justice with a concentration in criminal investigations. Activities include National Honor Society President, Photography Club, and Volleyball Club. Also played competitive and recreational softball for more than ten years. Paige's parents are Timothy Souza and Sandra Ricardo.
4. Malachi John Houtman will be attending Bristol Community College studying biology with plans to transfer to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Activities include Work Study, National Honor Society, Student Ambassador, and Volleyball Club. First-generation college student. Malachi's parents are Aaron and Felicia Houtman.
5. Bansari Natvar Patel will be attending Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences pursuing a doctorate in pharmacy and MBA in healthcare management. Activities include an Internship at Eterna Pharmacy, pharmacy technician certification, National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Ambassador, Photography Club, and Volleyball Club. First-generation college student. Bansari's parents are Natvarbhai and Pallaviben Patel.
6. Mia Grace Frazier will be attending the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth majoring in medical lab science. Mia's parents are Shelby and Allen Frazier.
7. Brianna Lauren Medina will be attending Fitchburg State University majoring in nursing. Activities include CNA certification, National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Ambassador, concert band, Jazz band, blue belt in Tang Soo Do, Photography Club, and Volleyball Club. Brianna's parent is Duane Medina “I am grateful to my father, Duane Medina. His hard work and dedication to establish a good life in America from Cabo Verde, has been one of my biggest inspirations. He has led me to believe that anything is possible if you simply put in the effort.”
8. Irma Danesy Funez Morales will be attending the University of Maryland, College Park majoring in Communications. Activities include teacher assistant, internship at the Community Economic Development Center, National Honor Society vice president, and Photography Club. Recipient of an Evans Scholarship which is a full tuition scholarship offered to deserving caddies by the Western Golf Association. Irma's parents are Elvin Funez and Irma Morales.
9. Alexander Luis Pires will be attending the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth majoring in computer science on the game design track. Activities include Tutor, National Honor Society, Drama Club, D&D Club. Walter's parents are Walter and Lena Pires (GLCPS Principal).
10. Kayla Collazo will be attending Bristol Community College majoring in life science biology. Kayla's guardians are Grandmother Dionisia Collazo and Aunt Evelyn Collazo.
