Meet the Iowa football team, the seventh game of Ohio State football schedule in 2022

It seems hard to believe, but Ohio State Buckeye football team hasn't played Iowa since 2017.

And memories of that contest don't sit well with Ohio State fans.

Iowa surprised the No. 3 Buckeyes 55-24 that day in Kinnick Stadium, which ended the team's playoff chances.

The Hawkeye defense overwhelmed the Buckeyes, and Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett ended the day with four interceptions.

"They were baiting him ... that's their coverage," Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said after the game. "We just didn't play very well."

But that was 2017, and this is 2022.

Ohio State will welcome Iowa on Oct. 22 and it's expected to be a key Big Ten game for both teams.

Last season, Iowa finished with a 10-4 record and 7-2 mark in the Big Ten.

The Hawkeyes were defeated 42-3 by Michigan in the Big Ten championship game and 20-17 to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.

Who are the best NFL 2023 Draft prospects on Iowa?

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper has Jack Campbell as the No. 2 inside linebacker on his 2023 NFL Draft board.

Campbell had 142 tackles last season.

Tight end Sam LaPorta is rated as the No. 2 tight end on Kiper's big board rankings.

Last season, LaPorta caught 53 passes for 670 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season.

Previewing the Iowa Hawkeyes offense

It wasn't a pretty season for Iowa's offense. The Hawkeyes only averaged 123.6 rushing yards per game last season and lost 1,000-yard rusher Tyler Goodson in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Senior Spencer Petras is expected to start at quarterback, but only threw nine touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

The offensive line also took a big hit with the loss of All-American center Tyler Linderbaum to the NFL Draft.

Previewing Iowa Hawkeyes defense

Iowa's defense should be a good one in 2022.

The team returns its top three linebackers including Campbell along with three defensive linemen starters.

The team also had a school-record 25 interceptions last season.

Three starters return on the defensive line, along with the top three linebackers, including Campbell, the national leader in tackles in 2022 with 143.
