Meet Kansas football’s incoming transfer class. The Jayhawks brought in 6 new names

Kansas football officially announced five new transfer additions on Wednesday — joining an additional sixth player who was announced in December.

All football newcomers are on campus and enrolled for the 2024 spring semester. The transfer portal entry window officially closed on Jan. 2.

Kansas added three pieces to its defense: safety Devin Dye (Utah State), defensive lineman Dylan Wudke (Youngstown State) and defensive tackle Javier Derritt (North Dakota State).

KU also added three players on offense: tight end DeShawn Hanika and offensive lineman Darrell Simmons from Iowa State, and offensive lineman Shane Bumgardner (D-II Tiffin University). Hanika joined the team earlier in December.

The six transfers complete KU’s 2024 recruiting class, which was announced in December.

According to 247Sports, six players in KU’s high school class are also enrolled for the 2024 spring semester: defensive end Dakyus Brinkley, quarterback Isaiah Marshall, cornerback Jalen Todd, running back Harry Stewart, running back Red Martel and safety Damani Maxson.

Here’s a look at the six incoming transfer players.

Safety Devin Dye: Devin is the brother of current Kansas safety Jalen Dye. Devin Dye finished last season with 81 tackles (37 solo tackles), seven defended passes, two interceptions and a forced fumble. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Defensive lineman Dylan Wudke: He will have one season of eligibility left. He had 34 tackles, eight tackles for loss and four sacks in the 2023 season.

Defensive tackle Javier Derritt: He finished with 31 total tackles and 2.5 sacks in the 2023 season. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Tight end DeShawn Hanika: He has one year of eligibility remaining. He didn’t play in the 2023 season due to the gambling investigation surrounding Iowa State. He was charged with a misdemeanor (tampering with records), the Des Moines Register reported, but the case was dropped after the state waited too long to indict him. He had 17 catches for 244 yards and four touchdowns in the 2022 season.

Offensive lineman Darrell Simmons: Simmons started 35 games for ISU between 2020 and 2022 before only making three starts last season. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Offensive lineman Shane Bumgardner: He earned the Division II version of the Rimington Award, given to the nation’s best center. He will have one year of eligibility left.
