Meet Lee County's new crops and livestock agent

Mar. 15—Over time you might see Jared Butler out and about around Lee County, educating the public, or walking through fields, or at his desk, dedicated to helping farmers and others in Lee County.

As the new Lee County Crops and Livestock Agent, Butler brings with him fresh knowledge, equipped with the latest technological know-how to best serve Lee County.

A native of Hickory, Butler is a 2021 graduate of N.C. State, with a bachelor of science degree in plant and soil science with a concentration in crop production, and currently pursuing his master's in extension education.

The opportunity in Lee County was perfect for Butler, he said. He is familiar with the area, and likes Sanford. With his mom's side of the family located in Fayetteville, and his brother residing in Raleigh, Lee County just made sense.

A die hard State football fan, Butler says his own prediction for next season, "I'm hoping we get eight wins — I could see maybe nine — but I believe eight and if we beat UNC regardless, it's be a good year."

"I'm happy to be here in Lee County," Butler said. "It's a really good area to be in, and look forward to helping the residents of Lee County."
