Meet Your Neighbor: Karazsia plans yoga retreat on Catawba Island

PORT CLINTON - On Oct. 6 to 8, Jessica Karazsia, a 200 RYT yoga instructor and owner of Ebb and Flow Wellness, will create a weekend oasis as she hosts "Inspire: A Weekend Yoga Retreat" on Catawba Island. The purpose of the retreat is to give participants a break from the busyness of life and the opportunity to reset their minds, bodies and spirits through yoga, education and activities that foster peace and healing.

“It’s not just yoga,” Karazsia said. “We will have journal writing exercises, nature meditation walks, a Saturday evening sound bath. If you don’t want to do something, you can sit by the lake or sit by the woods and do nothing.”

Mainous to talk about experiences in India and Indonesia yoga

The retreat will be held at SunnySide Tower on Catawba Island and will feature Nicholas Mainous, 500 RYT who will talk about his experiences with the India and Indonesia yoga culture; John Doyle, co-owner of YOUnique Wellness Center in Bellevue who will lead a Saturday evening sound bath; and Kyle Booth, a Holistic Health and Fitness Practitioner who will focus on myofascial release. Sarah Ruth Rinaldo, a professional clinical counselor, helped develop the content for the retreat.

“It’s really a healing weekend,” Karazsia said. “It’s an opportunity for people to get away and focus on themselves at this beautiful property on Catawba.”

Karazsia has been practicing yoga for about 20 years. She became intentional with yoga about five years ago and incorporated yoga healing into her recovery journey.

“I’m a recovering alcoholic. I’m six years sober,” she said. “My goal is to help people heal because everybody is healing from something. It doesn’t have to be alcohol. You might not even know what it is. We pick up these bad habits to try to mask feelings.”

Retreat patrons will learn tools to self-healing

Retreat participants will walk away with tools for self-regulated healing.

“They’ll learn how to take breaths, be in nature, eat healthy foods,” Karazsia said. “We’re not going too deep into any specific area, but they’ll walk away with things they can incorporate every day to regulate their nervous system.”

Karazsia wants participants to find the same serenity she finds from yoga.

“Being on the yoga mat is one place where I feel the Spirit of God. I feel connected with the energy around me,” she said. “I literally can get away from everything. I can push the anxieties out of my mind just by breathing, just by being on the mat.”

The retreat can give participants knowledge they can use to foster peace in their everyday lives.

“I want to show what I’ve learned and teach the tools that have helped me through this journey,” she said.

The cost for the retreat is: $499 overnight, double occupancy and $599 overnight, single occupancy. Meals are included. To secure a spot, call Jessica Karazsia at 419-341-9193.
