Meet your neighbors at a National Night Out near you
Tuesday is National Night Out across the United States, and towns across the Tri-State area will be taking part in the annual event.
"National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community," according to the national organization's website. "Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
Held nationally since 1984, there are 16,000 communities across the country that participate. Here's a list of some happening locally:
Hagerstown National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 6 to 8 p.m.

Williamsport National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 5 to 8 p.m.

Sponsored by Washington County Sheriff's Office and Town of Williamsport. Activities include rock wall climbing, "Dunk a Cop" booth, Williamsport Fire Company, D&D Towing, Toxic Monster Truck, late model race car, pony rides, temporary tattoo. Williamsport Pool will be open for swimming. Free food will be provided and Williamsport Lins Club will sell funnel cakes and Williamsport Cub Scouts will sell bottled water.

Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Local police, fire and rescue departments will attend to promote community awareness and public safety with demonstrations and fun activities for children. There will be food, drinks and live entertainment offered free of charge.
Smithsburg National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 5 to 8 p.m.

Smithsburg
Police department, emergency medical service and fire department/SRT displays; K-9 demonstration; hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks; inflatable bounce and slide, Party in the Park with DJ Rob; car crash extraction demonstration. Free to the Smithsburg community. Kona Ice and Antietam Dairy will have refreshments available for purchase.
Hancock National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 6 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by Joint Training Facility. Free activities such as archery tag, bubble soccer and more.

Hosted by Franklin County Housing Authority. Meet your community, networking and resources. There will be food, games and school supplies. Children must be registered to receive a book bag. Bring gently worn shoes to donate for a good cause, and be entered to win a gift card.
Waynesboro, Pa., National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 2 - 6 to 8 p.m.
