2022 was a season to remember on the gridiron in Palm Beach County.
15 area teams advanced to the playoffs of the Florida High School Athletic Association's state series: Atlantic, Benjamin, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Cardinal Newman, Dwyer, Inlet Grove, Jupiter, King's, Pahokee, Palm Beach Central, Palm Beach Gardens, Saint Andrew's, Santaluces and Wellington.
Only two local teams made it to the state championship tournament of their respective conferences. For the first time in program history, Palm Beach Central played football in December.
Jupiter Christian finished 6-4 and made its second consecutive appearance in the Final Four for the Sunshine State Athletic Conference title.

All-County Offensive Player of the Year nominees − First team
Quarterbacks
Brand Campbell, Palm Beach Gardens
Campbell made a historic senior run, upsetting higher-seed Monarch to see the Gators (9-4) to their first region final appearance since 2013. Clinching a district championship and Gardens' best record since joining the roster as a freshman, Campbell improved from completing 56 percent of passes against eight interceptions his junior season to 64 percent (144-of-227) for 2,035 yards against three interceptions as a senior. He also rushed for 190 yards to help him account for 28 touchdowns total.
Jacob Cashion, Saint Andrew's
Cashion's senior performance earned a seven-win season and playoff berth for the Scots and a Lou Groza Offensive Player of the Year nomination for himself. 3,250 total yards − 2,300 passing and 950 rushing − for 46 total touchdowns helped the Boca Raton High former break three school records at Saint Andrew's and rank as a Top 15 stat-leader for the state.
Lincoln Graf, Atlantic
Graf waited his turn as a freshman and cashed out on his potential for his sophomore season, forging back-to-back playoff berths for the Eagles since taking over as starter last fall. The young pocket passer stunned with a 62 percent completion rate (174-of-283) for 2,648 yards and 26 touchdowns against six interceptions before Atlantic (8-4) was eliminated by Class 3M state champion Saint Thomas Aquinas in region semifinals.
Ahmad Haston, Palm Beach Central
The three-star University of Massachusetts commit broke out onto the scene as a dominant passer but proved the extent of his dual-threat capabilities for his senior season, tasked with making up for lost rushing yards following the graduation of Markel King in the spring. Haston's physical game broke the school total touchdown record, putting up 2,650 yards on offense for 38 passing and 12 rushing touchdowns, an impressive 14 scores tallied in the postseason to get Central (12-2) in its first-ever Final Four matchup.
Haston was the Post's Offensive Player of the Year for the 2021 season.
Will Prichard, Santaluces
Prichard didn't always get the credit he deserved as the starter at King's Academy. Transferring to Santaluces for his senior year, Prichard made quite the statement. His arrival transformed Santaluces from a program that went 1-8 in 2021 to 8-3 district champions in 2022. The Arkansas State commit boasted a 63 percent completion rate (168-of-265) to double his junior stats for 2,932 passing yards and 34 touchdowns − plus two rushing scores − against just two interceptions.
Luke Warnock, Cardinal Newman
A Class 1M region finals and Newman's first undefeated regular season in over 40 years isn't too shabby for a first-year starter. The Crusaders were unsure of what their presence in the pocket would look like after losing former QB1 Davi Belfort to Gulliver Prep, but Warnock's 2,296 passing yards and 34 touchdowns signaled there was no trouble in paradise to be had. Warnock's junior year saw him rank the third best passer in the division.
Austin Simmons, Pahokee
Who tied Pro Football Hall of Fame candidate Anquan Boldin for the most passing yards in a season leading to a back-to-back Class 1R region final matchup? Look to the Blue Devils' sophomore under center. Pahokee went 9-3 with the four-star Simmons, one of the county's most accurate quarterbacks with a 68 percent completion rate (163-of-242) for 3,242 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also tallied three rushing touchdowns, averaging about 6.5 yards per carry on the ground.
Wide Receivers
Luby Maurice Jr., Palm Beach Central
From his flashy touchdown connections to the end zone celebrations to follow, Maurice's game was a staple of the 2022 season. The Florida International commit got more shine his senior year, hauling in 16 touchdown passes on 31 catches for 732 yards to lead scoring efforts in the Broncos' receiver room.
Hardley Gilmore, Pahokee
Gilmore may be unrated, but he's far from unknown − especially since returning to his stomping grounds in the Muck. The sophomore made 43 grabs for 1,003 yards and nine touchdowns as Simmons' go-to target. In 2022, the speedster picked up offers from the University of Central Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, FAMU, Texas A&M and, most recently, Ole Miss.
Micah Mays, Benjamin
The four-star track stud didn't have the season he and the Bucs anticipated heading into the year, but Mays' skills guaranteed a region semifinal meeting with Newman and an invitation to the U.S. Army Bowl. He made 27 catches for 505 yards and eight touchdowns, finishing his varsity career averaging 18 yards per catch with a long of 73. Mays is committed to play at Wake Forest, just one of his collection of Power 5 offers, including Miami and NC State.
Kamare Williams, Atlantic
With 35 catches for 916 Yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season on varsity, Williams will be one to watch as the young Eagles take flight over the next couple years. The sophomore finished the season as the top receiver in his class and fourth out of all who call Division 3M home.
Javorian Wimberly, Palm Beach Central
The three-star receiver and return specialist is committed to take his talents to Central Michigan, and even though he was accounted for by the backfield more than in 2021, Wimberly posted a performance that would still give the Chippewas a taste of what they're getting next fall. The senior had 811 yards and six touchdowns on 42 catches.
Running backs
Jashon Benjamin, Pahokee
A late injury in 2021 barred Benjamin from stuffing the stat sheet, but he more than made up for lost time in his last lap on varsity. The Rutgers commit averaged 8.3 yards per carry, totaling 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. A true three-down back, Benjamin also scored four times on 30 catches for 688 yards.
Chauncey Bowens, Benjamin
Bowens "struggled" with injury throughout the year, missing three games in Benjamin's 5-5 season. Looking at the stat sheet, it was hard to tell. The junior four-star charged the Bucs' rushing attack once again with 967 yards on 133 carries and eight touchdowns, including four 100-plus yard performances. He committed to the University of Florida in September.
Bobby Smith Jr., Boynton Beach
Six 100-plus yard games, 1,323 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns later, the senior Smith is still searching for a college home after a milestone season for Boynton. Smith had 129 carries for a team-high 1,323 yards and 16 touchdowns, seeing the Tigers to a 9-3 record and back-to-back playoff appearances before being bounced out of Class 2M region semifinals by title matchup contender American Heritage-Plantation.
Bill Young, Saint Andrew's
Cashion lightened the load for Young this season, but the Army commit still posted 961 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns total, averaging 8.5 yards per carry across ten games. Totaling 10 total 100-plus yard performances over four years, the senior finished his varsity career with 2,700 yards.
Tight Ends
Chase Hanning, Santaluces
Prichard's target of choice was the breakout senior transfer from Somerset-Canyons. Proving himself Santa's most instrumental pass-catcher, Hanning averaged 25 yards per catch, scoring 10 touchdowns on 29 catches through 10 games. Hanning's 717 receiving yards ranked 13th in Division 1M.
Jackson Worley, King's Academy
The 6-foot-4, 225 pound Troy commit colored Palm Beach County coaches impressed in 2022. Worley was a key leader and scorer in the Lions' resilience through another coaching change, improving King's from a 6-4 record last fall to going out 8-3 as a district champion.
Athletes
Waden Charles, Somerset Canyons
An offer from Miami and a game invitation to Georgia suggest a bright future ahead for Charles and the Cougars. Somerset Canyons saw another season closer to becoming a program that can go the distance thanks to a 1,000-plus yard, nine touchdown performance on offense and a similarly lights out performance on defense from Charles. The sophomore's time spent in the secondary was highlighted by three picks, 48 solo tackles and a couple of pass breakups.
Chris Presto, Cardinal Newman
Tallying 585 yards on offense and seven touchdowns, Newman's leader in the locker room and receiving yards (for the second straight year) had a senior season worth waiting for after battling injury on-and-off last fall. While he was nothing short of successful as a junior, he battled for the credit he deserved offensively with Georgia commit Tovani Mizell on the roster. Since Mizell's move to Maryland, there's more space to see how dependable Presto is on both sides of the ball. Adopting linebacker into his skillset, Presto made 29 tackles − 11 solo and six for loss − two pass breakups and picked up three interceptions.
Bobby "Fat" Smith, Boynton Beach
Boynton will have a shot at their second district championship in program history next fall as the younger of the Smith brothers is anticipated to return for his senior season. The Georgia Southern commit averaged a whopping 13.2 yards on 921 carries, totaling 1,204 yards − 1,373 all-purpose − and 14 touchdowns total.
Offensive Line
Christopher Cirillo, Palm Beach Central
Picking up offers from Maryville College, Wittenburg University and McPherson College in the short weeks since the Broncos competed for the state championship, Cirillo's impact on Central's offense hasn't gone unnoticed. The senior, who regularly played center, helped make 4,531 total yards possible for the Broncos. At 6-foot-2, 275 pounds, there isn't a place on the line that Cirillo can't play − or a college in need of a senior that wouldn't regret picking him up.
Edwin Jean, Boynton Beach
It would have been impossible for three running backs to make up all but 371 of Boynton's 4,146 total rushing yards without Jean. The senior guard was what made the Tigers' Wing-T offense functional, accounting for 85 pancake blocks to grade out at 90 percent.
Brady Shea, Cardinal Newman
Shea could be found backing Warnock from the blindside and flipping pancakes for a 92 percent grade on Newman's O-line. The senior put up a 6-foot-2 wall for opposing defenses hoping to halt the Crusaders' rapid-fire offense. Newman replaced a number of pieces in its trenches ahead of the 2022 season, but Shea helped the Crusaders remain consistent through transition, the program's offense tallying 1,803 yards on the ground and 2,108 in the air.
