Meet the Raiders and Meet the Black Bears next week

Aug. 5—Decatur's two high schools will begin the 2022-2023 athletic season with Meet the Raiders and Meet the Black Bears events.

Decatur High's Meet the Raiders will take place Thursday at Ogle Stadium, 1101 Prospect Drive S.E., at 5 p.m.

The event will include a Decatur Middle School football practice at 5 p.m. and a ninth to 12th grade football scrimmage at 5:45 p.m. The school's volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, football, track, wrestling, baseball, golf, tennis, soccer, softball and swim teams also will be introduced.

Admission is $10 through gofan.com for 6 years olds and older and includes a slice of pizza and a soda.

Austin High's Meet the Black Bears will be Aug. 12 at Austin High, 3004 Modaus Road S.W., at 5 p.m. The event will include the introduction of the football, volleyball, cheerleading, dance, swim and cross-country teams, and band.

The school also will hold football scrimmages between the seventh and eighth grade teams at 5 p.m., the eighth and ninth grade teams at 5:40 p.m. and the varsity team at 7 p.m. A volleyball scrimmage will be in the gym at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.
