Meet your new restaurant and dining writer, Caroline Hebert
Volusia and Flagler counties' rich and varied culinary scenes continue to expand and that's why we're so excited to introduce our new restaurant and dining writer Caroline Hebert.
Pronounced "A-bear," she comes from one of the greatest food cities in the country, New Orleans. A graduate of Louisiana State University, she has written about dining for publications in her native New Orleans as well Baton Rouge and Tampa Bay.
"I have cooked alongside my father and older sister for years and have fond memories of making feasts on Thanksgiving and Christmas to dinner parties to even plates for college students," Hebert said. "New Orleans' food culture has shaped much of who I am today and has taught me that food is a window into any culture, so I am excited to explore all that Volusia and Flagler counties have to offer."

Hebert's crucial role at The Daytona Beach News-Journal will consist of writing stories about restaurant openings and closings as well as restaurant inspection reports and reviews, including dining guides to everything from neighborhoods to particular types of food. She will also profile restaurateurs, chefs and mixologists, and write stories about how world events might be affecting the Volusia and Flagler county restaurant scene and the prices of things like chicken wings.
For now, Hebert is getting to know her new home. We have her exploring popular restaurants across both counties and look forward to having you read about her favorites. We would also love for you to email her suggestions.
For instance, which restaurants should a new Daytona Beach resident should check out? Where's the best place to get a decadent taco or gourmet burger? How about a great food truck?
"Everything from the food to the ambiance and service will be considered when reporting," Hebert said. "I hope to introduce new and exciting stories about Daytona's food scene to keep readers not only entertained but educated on their local establishments."
