Meet the Rock Hill Herald’s 2023 fall high sports athletes of the year

The 2023 Rock Hill Herald fall sports athletes of the year honorees feature several all-state selections, individual state champions and team state champions.

Area coaches nominated players for consideration.

Here are the Herald’s fall sports athletes of the year, with stats and highlights provided by coaches and MaxPreps.

Boys’ cross-country: Garrett Brown, South Pointe

Brown, a senior, put up a stellar campaign as part of the Stallions’ cross-country team.

He won four meets, including the 4A state meet, where he finished almost 17 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. South Pointe also captured its first cross-country state championship.

Brown clocked a personal-best 15:20 this season.

Boys’ swimming: Jack Dollyhigh, Fort Mill

Dollyhigh, a senior, was one of the leading forces for the team, which won the 5A state championship.

He earned 623 total points across nine meets for the Yellow Jackets, including 39 points at the state meet.

Dollyhigh received regional and state honors this season.

Boys’ volleyball: Tillman Campbell, Fort Mill

Campbell, a senior, was the best player during Fort Mill’s inaugural season.

He led the Yellow Jackets (14-13-2) with 247 kills and 48 aces while also recording 141 digs and 31 blocks.

Girls’ cross-country: Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill

Cleveland, a sophomore, took home her second consecutive individual state championship as the driving force for the team, which also won the 5A state title.

Cleveland’s time of 18:17 was the fastest posted by a girl at the state meet for all classifications, the second consecutive year she’s done so.

Girls’ golf: Reagan Lynch, Catawba Ridge

Lynch, a junior, was captain of the team, which finished second at the 4A state championships. She posted an average of 40 in 9-hole matches and 83 in 18-hole tournaments.

Lynch’s performance earned her all-region and all-state honors.

Girls’ swimming: Olivia Corbi, Fort Mill

Corbi, a senior, was a driving force for Fort Mill’s team, which won the state championship. She scored 694 points across nine meets and set school records in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events at the state meet.

Corbi was a team captain and received all-region and all-state honors, including regional swimmer of the year.

Girls’ tennis: Emerson Brooks, Catawba Ridge

Brooks was one of the best freshmen in the state, going 14-1 overall with a 10-0 record as Catawba Ridge’s No. 3 singles player.

Brooks earned all-region honors.

Girls’ volleyball: Camie Mitrovich, Rock Hill

Mitrovich, a senior, was a major contributor for the Bearcats, who advanced to the upper state championship. She played primarily at outside hitter, recording 316 kills, 306 digs and 143 assists.

Mitrovich was an all-region selection for each of the past four years and an all-state selection for each of the past two years.
