Meet Rogers High School's top 10 students from the Class of 2022

Rogers High School announced the following students as the top 10 in the Class of 2022.

Valedictorian — Olivia Peters

The valedictorian for Rogers High School Class of 2022 is Olivia Peters. Olivia is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. She received the Light of Scholarship Award, Harvard Book Award, Rensselaer Medal Award and Outstanding Achievements in US History her junior year.

Olivia is an AP Scholar who has consistently maintained high honors while being a three letter varsity sports player in soccer, swim and outdoor track. She was captain of both her swim and soccer teams. Olivia is a member of the yearbook committee and volunteers her time as a member of the audio visual production club live stream sporting events.

Olivia will attend Boston College to study International Relations.

Salutatorian — Sophie Breitenbach

The salutatorian for Rogers High School Class of 2022 is Sophie Breitenbach. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. Sophie was awarded the prestigious Yale Book Award and Rogers Student Scholar Award her junior year, and attended the National Leadership Conference.

She was awarded the Rogers High School Senior Art Award and the Physical Education/Health Sportsmanship Award. Sophie was class vice president her last three years of high school. Sophie is a talented athlete in both volleyball and varsity indoor and outdoor track. In Volleyball, Sophie was 1st Team All Division, All State 3rd Team, Player of the Year, and MVP.  She served as captain of the volleyball team both her junior and senior year.

Sophie will attend Endicott and study Biology on track to become a doctor. She will also play volleyball for Endicott.

Meghan Mureddu

Meghan Mureddu ranks 3rd in her Class of 2022. Meghan is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. She was the recipient of the Rhode Island Civic Leadership Award, Outstanding United States History Award, Light of Leadership Award, Mathematics Award, and Class of 1941 American Government Award. She was also awarded the OCTI badge for Graphic Design.

In 2020, Meghan won first place in the science fair, “How does the loft of a golf club affect the distance and height the ball travels?” Meghan is captain of the golf team and varsity cheerleading. She has served as class officer since 2018 serving the roles of Class Treasurer, Prom Committee, and Student Council President 2021 and 2022. Meghan is also part of the yearbook staff.

Meghan volunteers her time at Newport Recreation Department entertaining young children. She received recognition for her desire to study education by receiving the Senior Pin Award. Meghan passed the National Occupational Competency Test through four years of hard work in Rogers High School Adverting and Design class.

Meghan will attend Castleton University in Vermont and will major in Secondary Education, Math.

Meghan Leddy

Meghan ranks 4th in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. Meghan was awarded the Bausch Lomb Award for excellence in science and the Salve Book Award for academic excellence and character. Meghan received the Rogers High School Prolific Performer Award and Outstanding Effort in Mathematics Award.

She is a member of varsity cross country and varsity indoor and outdoor track, serving as captain for both teams her senior year. Meghan is also an active member of the Rogers Theater Company. She attended the Young Women’s Institute at Bernard’s Pre-College Program. Meghan completed an Internship with Clean Ocean Access. Meghan volunteers her time with the Rogers High School Environmental Club and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

Meghan will attend the University of Rhode Island and will study Environmental Science.

Ellie Coen

Ellie ranks fifth in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. She was awarded the Wellesley College Book Award, Light of Service Award, AP Scholar Award, American Math Society for Outstanding Achievement in Math Award, Rogers High School Director Award for Theater, and the Pell Medal Award.

Ellie is President of the French Club and has been Class Treasurer since 2018. She was a member of Rogers High School tennis team since 2018, serving as captain her senior year, as well as joining the golf team her senior year. She has participated in mock trial and young voices. Eleanor’s passion is dance. She is a member of Newport Academy of Ballet and Island Moving Company’s Junior Company. She is involved in Rogers Theatre Company and Newport Children’s Theatre.

Eleanor will attend to Franklin University in Switzerland.

Amelia Prendergast

Amelia ranks sixth in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. She was awarded the Excellence in United States History Award in the spring of 2021. Amelia received the Outstanding Effort in Physical Education/Health.  As secretary of the Student Council the past three years, Amelia helped to organize dances, pep rallies and the prom.

Amelia is a three letter varsity sports player: volleyball, track and field and softball and a member of Ocean Pointe Students Youth Group.  Amelia volunteers her time at the Newport Recreation Center and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County.

Amelia will attend to Merrimack University to major in Nutritional Sciences in the Honors Program.

Louis Murphy III

Louis ranks seventh in his Class of 2022. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. Louis was a recipient of the Excellence in United States History Award and Society of Women Engineers Award. Louis recently received the Excellence in Personal Finance Award and Outstanding Effort in Physical Education/Health Award.

He is a dedicated member with the indoor track and field and golf teams, serving as captain of his golf team his junior and senior year. Louis volunteers his time helping Rogers Boosters Club, St. Mary’s Church and Newport Little League.

Louis will attend Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University to major in Business Administration.

Amanda Chavarria-Pleitez

Amanda ranks eighth in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. Amanda was the winner of the science fair in 2019. She was the recipient of the RI Affiliate Honorable Mention for the NCWIT for Aspiration in Computing in 2021 and 2022. She also received the R.I.T. computing Medal and Scholarship Award and the Junior Scholar Award.

Amanda received the RHS Academy of Informational Technology Award. Amanda is a faithful member of Rogers High School Orchestra, Theater, and the Environmental Club. She completed an Internship with NAACP Newport Branch.

Amanda will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to study Computer Science.

Khatima Bulmer

Khatima ranks ninth in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Rhode Island Honor Society. She was awarded the Rogers High School Excellence in English Award and Most Creative Artist Award. Khatima is a three letter varsity member: volleyball, indoor and outdoor track and cross country.  She is an active member of Rogers High School Theatre.

Khatima took courses at Rhode Island School of Design and New England Institute of Technology. She was a member of the Model UN and Leadership through Westfield Academy. Khatima volunteers her time at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Potter League and Trinity Church. Khatima passed the National Occupational Competency Institute test through her four years of hard work in the Advertising and Design Program at Rogers High School.

Khatima will attend Emerson College to major in Media Arts Production with a minor in Sociology/Anthropology

Madeline Leddy

Madeline ranks 10th in her Class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Rhode Island Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Madeline was a varsity softball player all four years of high school. Her senior year she served as team captain.

Madeline served two years on the student council to help organize the prom. She was involved in the RHS Environmental Club. Madeline volunteers her time at Newport Recreation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County and hosted as blood drive for her senior project.

Madeline will attend the University of Rhode Island.
