Meet the six new troopers who joined Louisiana State Police Troop C on Monday

Louisiana State Police Troop C welcomed six new troopers to its ranks on Monday.

The newly minted troopers were part of the agency’s 100th cadet class, which officially graduated Thursday during a ceremony in Baton Rouge.

Each trooper completed a 23-week regimen that included training in crash investigation, emergency vehicle operations, impaired driving detection, traffic incident management, leadership and physical training.

Daniel Berrincha, 34, of New Orleans, Simon Braud, 26, of Bayou Blue, David Damico, 31, of Metairie, Tyler Evans, 21, of Denham Springs, Vincente Paz, 34, of Gretna, and Tyler Werner, 24, of Baton Rouge, began their field training at Troop C’s headquarters in Gray on Monday.

State Police Troop C Commander Capt. Lanny Bergeron said the new additions will benefit the community by keeping highways safer.

“It puts more eyes on the road and helps with morale,” Bergeron said. “These troopers will lead by example, treat people with respect and enforce the laws of the state of Louisiana. The more troopers on the roads the safer the roads are going to be.”

Paz said he was excited to be a part of Troop C.

“It feels real good,” he said. “I’ve been in law enforcement before, but I’m excited for a different challenge.”

Though he has no previous experience in law enforcement, Evans said becoming a state trooper is a dream come true.

“It’s a great feeling,” he said. “Law enforcement is something I’ve always been interested in. So being here today is a great feeling. I look forward to progressing in this career.”

Damico said Monday felt like the end to a long journey.

“It’s kind of surreal,” he said. “I applied two years ago and coming here today has been really rewarding,” he said.

For Berrincha, the State Police badge is the most rewarding.

“It’s the fourth badge I’ve had,” he said. “It’s also the toughest and the last. It feels good and I’m excited to see other parts of the state.”

Werner said he was ready to get started in his new role.

“I’m excited to be here and to learn,” he said. “I’m ready to get on the road.”

Troop C, which now has 45 troopers, covers Lafourche, Terrebonne and Assumption parishes and the west banks of St. James and St. John parishes.
