Meet the top students from Sault High School's graduating class

SAULT STE. MARIE — Magdalene Bauer, Emily Kielchaefer and Delaney Cushman are the top students graduating from Sault Area High School this weekend.

Magdalene Bauer, daughter of Ray and Joan Bauer, is graduating first in her class with a 4.095 grade point average.

Bauer was a member of band, Quiz Bowl and the National Honor Society while in school.

Bauer plans on attending Western Michigan University to study music education.

Emily Kielchaefer, daughter of Michael and Kate Kielchafer, is graduating second in her class with a grade point average of 4.093.

Kielchafer was a part of cross country, swimming, track, and worked at Chippewa tribal court while in high school.

Kielchafer will be attending the University of Michigan to study government, economics and philosophy. She plans to pursue a career in law.

Delaney Cushman, daughter of Ronda and Michael Cushman, is graduating third in her class with a grade point average of 4.092.

Cushman was a part of Students United and the National Honor Society. She was also BPA president and had more than 400 volunteer hours while attending high school.

Cushman plans on attending Harvard University with a focus in neuroscience and a secondary language, with the goal of becoming a trauma surgeon.

Sault Area High School will celebrate commencement at 2 p.m. on May 29.
