Meet Trista Briggs, owner of the new Vault Beauty Lounge

Trista Briggs is the owner and manager of The Vault Beauty Lounge, 1011 W. State St., Newcomerstown. The business will hold a grand opening Oct. 1.

She is a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and the Buckeye Career Center Cosmetology Program.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

I was raised in the area and graduated from New Philadelphia High School then attended cosmetology school soon after at Buckeye Career Center. I am married to Barry Briggs, and have a daughter Kaylena Engler, a student at National Beauty College.

My hobbies include traveling, party planning, hosting Halloween events for children, camping, hunting and just appreciating the outdoors. I also enjoy crafting and spending time with my daughter. My family loves animals.

Why did you decide to become a cosmetologist?

I have always been a highly creative person and passionate about hair.

I consider my craft, or art so to speak, as being keen in originating the perfect look for each and every client. Keeping up with the latest trends is something I pride myself on, and we have already had several well-known hair professionals on site at the Vault to share their talents, so in turn we have not only received our formal education in the cosmetology arena, but are collaborating with and absorbing knowledge from those successful in the field for years.

Too, my stylists are all being supervised and guided by a master cosmetologist on a daily basis.

Something that makes my brand different from other salons is that I work closely with Buckeye Career Center and National Beauty College to help educate and grow our future cosmetologists.

Many will be coming to the Beauty Lounge to shadow and intern thus experiencing the day-to-day interaction with our clients. I am excited to see be a part of their future careers and see where they go from here.

Why did you decide to open The Vault Beauty Lounge in Newcomerstown?

I spent most of my adult life as a single mom working for owners of salons with no 401K or benefits. My path did take me away from the area for a while and I spent a few years in the gas and oil industry.

However, my daughter recently took to the beauty industry and is now attending National Beauty College. Her newfound love made me think of the many years I spent as a single mom working in salons with no retirement or pension plan.

Kaylena’s new career choice forged my future at that moment. My goal then became to return to the cosmetology field and purchase a salon that would someday be my daughter’s legacy.

By the time she takes over, the State Street location will be paid for, and we will have worked together to build her skills as a successful businessperson who will never have to struggle financially. For this reason, I wanted to purchase a building for the shop, so it is totally Kaylena’s.

I had lived in Newcomerstown for a while after high school, so I was familiar with the area. When I looked at the 1011 West State building, it was already under contract, but I stayed extremely interested just in case that did not work out, and that was exactly what happened, and here I am.

There was a lot of work to be done at The Vault to get to where I am at today. I completed the painting and laying of the floor, and hired the plumbing, electrical and other needed labor from local professionals in order to be fully licensed and ready to go. Kaylena and I picked out the art, furniture, and other décor together.

Challenges were faced along away, but overall, I am simply happy to finally be open and ready to go. This is a dream come true for me, and a way to secure Kaylena’s future and know that I have gifted my daughter with something that may prove even more valuable than a 401K.

What would you like to highlight for us?

The Vault still has positions to fill, as we are actively looking for an experienced cosmetologist, nail tech, and esthetician. I am looking for staff members that are ready to work and make our clients feel amazing. I have four cosmetologist stations and currently two nail tech stations, and hope to utilize each one.

In the last several years, the building was formerly the home for West End Grocery, a video store, Curves, and most recently a Physical Therapy practice. We will be offering refreshments, door prizes and a chance to meet our current associates. We are happy to share our portfolio, schedule appointments, answer questions, or speak with anyone interested in joining The Vault team.

The Vault Beauty Lounge features a warm and inviting atmosphere. Walk-ins are welcome for hair services and waxing. Nails, eyelash extensions, facials, and pedicures will be by appointment only for now.

I look forward to a long and lasting career for myself and Kaylena here in Newcomerstown. The Vault is excited to continue on with our existing clientele and meet more locals looking for that fresh look that someone new can bring to your life. The community has already been great to us, and as I get more acclimated, I also will be looking for ways to give back locally.
