Meet the two newest officers sworn into the Newton Police Department

NEWTON - Two new police officers were sworn into the town's police department Monday during ceremonies at the Town Council meeting.

Donald Wagner, 29, a native of Wharton, comes to the department from time as a corrections officer with the Morris County Department of Corrections. The other new officer, Robert Martin, a Sparta native, is a recent graduate of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.

The two new officers have completed required law enforcement training, which included some on-patrol work within the town.

Both new officers were athletes in high school with Martin going on to play football with Penn State University. Wagner graduated from Centenary University where he also wrestled as he gained his degree in criminal justice then served an internship with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

Wagner continues wrestling as a competitor and a coach. He, his wife Bronte, and their son, Donny, live in Dover.

Martin, played high school football with St. Joseph Regional High School in Bergen County, and earned a bachelor's degree in telecommunications from Penn State, where he played football on a full scholarship. After graduating in 2016, he worked for a time with Coca-Cola before enrolling in the Morris County police training academy where he and had a top 10 score on the written entrance exam.
