Meet Watertown High School valedictorian Jaxon Parsons and salutatorian Masie Owensby

Watertown High School graduated 157 students Thursday as part of its 2024 class. We asked valedictorian Jaxon Parsons and salutatorian Masie Owensby questions about their accomplishments and about themselves.

College and/or career plans? "I plan on attending Tennessee Tech University to get my bachelor's degree in automotive mechanical engineering. From there, I would like to get on at Ford Motor Company and become a part of their design team for the Ford Mustang."

What motivates you to excel in the classroom? "The thing that motivates me the most in the classroom is knowing that if I don't give it my all, I may end up regretting it in the future."

Who made you better as a high school student and person? "My old STEM teacher Lucas Miller (now in the IT department at Green Hill High)."

What is one topic or theme planned in your graduation speech? "I plan on revolving my speech around the Lord and the many different opportunities and people he has put into my life through high school, and the many different things they have taught me."

What is your favorite way to get away from the grind? "To go play tennis or golf."

Favorite restaurant, musical artist, TV show? "Logan's Roadhouse, Def Leppard, and the original "MacGyver.'"

College and/or career plans? To attend Tennessee Tech and study marketing.

What motivates you to excel in the classroom? "Fear of failure."

Who made you better as a high school student and person? "Choir director Scott Corley." (Masie has been part of the choir at Watertown for three years.)

What is one topic or theme planned in your graduation speech? "Don't rush into adulthood; enjoy our college years."

What is your favorite way to get away from the grind? "Cheer."

Favorite restaurant, musical artist, TV show? Calypso Cafe, Taylor Swift, "New Girl" and "Young Sheldon."
