Meeting on state broadband internet initiative set for Thursday at courthouse

Etowah County residents without broadband internet access are asked to attend a meeting with representatives from ADECA’s Digital Expansion Division for the Alabama Community Broadband Technical Assistance Program.

The meeting will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in the County Commission Chambers at the Etowah County Courthouse, 800 Forrest Ave., Gadsden.

According to an email from ADECA provided by county officials, the state over the next few years will “make unprecedented funds” and technical assistance to help identify and address the county’s “broadband gaps and opportunities.”

The plan is to develop a “county-specific profile with strategic approaches” to help achieve broadband goals.

Elected officials and internet providers also have been invited to the meeting.

For more information or to request accommodations to attend, email broadband.fund@adeca.alabama.gov.
