MEGA captures 13 championships at USA state gymnastics meet

Mar. 30—SIOUX FALLS — It was another banner day for MEGA at the South Dakota USA gymnastics meet this past weekend.

MEGA finished with 13 state champions and a host of qualifiers for the Region 4 Championships in Bettendorf, Iowa on April 16-18. Qualifiers need a 34.0 or higher all-around score at their state meet in order to compete for South Dakota at the region championships.

Region 4 is comprised of South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri and Nebraska.

The MEGA athletes that qualified for the region meet include: (Level 9) Bentley Bates; (Level 8) Olivia Prunty, Kyanna Gropper, Joslin Sommerville, Sidney Malde (prequalified due to injury), Emily Moody, Tabitha Sadler, Kyra Gropper, Aubrey Gelderman, Chelsey Mohr; (Level 7) Alexys Rueb, Lainee Forst, Amelia Jones, Maddi Lord, Lara Widstrom, Sara Mauszycki; (Level 6) Ava Prunty, Aria Croce, Caroline Croce, McKenna Auch, Kya Bannwarth and Elliot Smith.

MEGA captured the Level 8 team championship with 108.500 points. Team members were Moody, Sommerville, Kyanna Gropper, Kyra Gropper, Prunty and Sadler.

Additionally, ALL STAR awards were given to top-3 kids at each level. Prunty (Level 8), Sommerville (Level 8) and Rylee Heinrich (Bronze) received the honors. Prunty (36.075) and Sommerville (35.600) were all-around winners in Level 8. Heinrich (38.075) captured the all-around title in Bronze Level.
