The second season of popular Amazon Prime teen drama series "The Summer I Turned Pretty," which shot in the Wilmington area last year, will air new episodes starting in July.

"Summer lasts longer this season," the show's official Twitter account tweeted on Friday. "New episodes weekly starting July 14."

Unlike last year, when all the episodes of season one dropped at the same time, the first three episodes of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" season two drop July 14, with additional episodes dropping weekly through Aug. 18.

In a video with the tweet, the show's young cast members all get a group chat text from show creator Jenny Han with the season two air dates. They then post the information to their social media accounts before Han texts "OMG WRONG CHAT."

The show stars Lola Tung as Belly, a teenage girl torn between a trio of hunks on "Cousins Beach." Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno and David Iacono plays Belly's love interests, and the cast also includes Sean Kaufman, Jackie Chung (of "Grey's Anatomy") and Rachel Blanchard ("Fargo").

Wilmington area, as well as nearby beaches and Southport, gets lots of screen time.

Last year, for the show's first season, Amazon announced the premiere date at the same time it announced that the show would have a second season. If that was also the plan for season's two air date and the announcement of season three, it was probably thrown off by the Writers Guild of America strike and the uncertainty of when a third season could begin production.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" hasn't actually been approved for a third season, and even if it is there's no guarantee the show would continue to shoot in Wilmington. But since the show is based on a series of three books, and since season one essentially follows book one, it's generally assumed the show will run for three seasons.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is based on a best-selling series of young adult novels by Han, whose YA credentials include her mega-popular book series of "To All the Boys I've Loved Before," which were turned into a series of movies. Han is also an executive producer of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" and its showrunner.

The show is up for Best Musical Moment at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday. It boasts a massive, A-list soundtrack featuring everything from contemporary hits by Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and Cardi B to such classics as Electric Light Orchestra's “Mr. Blue Sky” and Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag,"
