Megabus returns to Indy with $1 fares to select destinations
Have dollar, will travel.
Megabus is coming back to Indy.
After pulling out of the market in mid-2020, the low-price bus service — rides are as cheap as $1 plus the $3.99 booking fee — returns here with service to dozens of cities.
Starting on Jan. 25, it will connect Indianapolis with 32 cities, including Chicago, Nashville, Detroit, Gary and South Bend.
Megabus, which has its U.S. operations based in New Jersey, is adding new markets through partnerships with regional transportation companies. In the Midwest, it’s Miller Transportation.

Hoosiers are familiar with the 85-year-old company and its subsidiary Hoosier Ride, from its shuttling of folks throughout Indiana, as well as Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
“By working together with Megabus and selling our tickets on megabus.com, Miller Transportation can sell excess seating inventory and introduce our brand and convenient destinations to new customers across North America,” said John Miller, CEO of Miller Transportation in a released statement.

Megabus expanded from Europe to the U.S. in 2006, growing through curbside bus service with stops in public streets, at bus stations, on college campuses and outside transportation centers.
Then a string of accidents led to scrutiny and lawsuits. Crashes included a 2010 crash in New York that left four passengers dead and 17 others injured; an August 2012 crash near Litchfield, Illinois that left one passenger dead and 30 injured; and a 2016 bus fire and explosion in Lake Forest, Illinois, that was live tweeted by a New York Times reporter who was among the passengers evacuated just ahead of the explosion.
A Megabus traveling northbound on I-65 near Greenwood in October 2014 clipped a car, hit cable barriers and overturned, leading 18 passengers to be treated at hospitals.
Indianapolis was one of the cities Megabus cut due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Schedules are now available, and tickets can be purchased for travel beginning on Jan. 25 at us.megabus.com.
The old Megabus stop in Indianapolis had been at 200 E. Washington St. Starting next week, customers board and depart Megabus at the Indianapolis Bus Station, 350 S. Illinois St. and at Indianapolis International Airport's Zone 1 Ground Transportation Center.
