Meghan Markle Announces New Children's Book Inspired by Prince Harry and Archie's Relationship

The Duchess of Sussex will soon become a published author. Random House Children's Books announced that Meghan Markle has her debut book in the works. The Bench is inspired by her son Archie, who turns two on May 6, and husband Prince Harry's, 36, relationship. The book is scheduled to release on June 8, 2021.

The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan said in the book's press release. “That poem became this story.”

The book follows a father and son's “special bond,” told through the lens of a mother. Meghan stated in the press release that the story “touchingly captures the evolving and expanding relationship between fathers and sons and reminds us of the many ways that love can take shape and be expressed in a modern family.”

Christin Robinson, a Caldecott-winning and bestselling artist, illustrated the book. “Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life,“ Meghan stated in the press release, per People. “This representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”

This news comes after the death of Harry's grandfather Prince Philip. Harry traveled to the funeral without his pregnant wife, who will give birth to a baby girl in the summer. Us Weekly was told by a source that “Meghan will be staying in California. She can't go on doctor's orders. She is too far along to fly, and it's recommended she rest in the final months.” The outlet also reported that the Duchess spoke to the Queen and expressed her condolences.

Earlier in the year, the couple dropped major bombshells about their experiences as working royal family members in an exclusive interview with Oprah. Since the interview aired, Harry and Meghan's issues with the royal family's treatment of them have not been fully resolved, per Harper's Bazaar.
