After making a surprise appearance at last night's Fashion Awards 2018, we've come to expect the unexpected from Meghan Markle.

There to present Givenchy's Creative Director and designer of her royal wedding dress, Claire Waight Keller, with the British Designer Womenswear award, Markle looked next level stunning in a black velvet one shoulder dress by Givenchy, of course.

The Duchess completed her LBD ensemble with a slicked back bun, chunky gold bangles and an adorable baby bump. Our favourite part of the new royal's seriously fashun outfit? Her sneaky goth girl black mani that added just a dash of rebellion to the situation.

Why? Because, if you've been following royal protocol as closely as we have (we assume everyone does, right?) then you'll know that the mum-to-be's choice of nail varnish was a subtle break away from the strict regulations of royal appearance.

Although an unofficial 'rule', royals reportedly aren't supposed to wear bright or dark nail polish, opting for pale pink and neutral shades instead. Think about it, have you ever seen Kate Middleton working bright red nails or tortoiseshell nail art? Exactly.

In fact, it's widely reported that both Kate Middleton and Meghan chose to wear the Queen's go-to pale pink nail shade, Essie's Ballet Slippers, on their wedding day.

Which is why we're kind of loving Meghan's alternative choice of glossy black nails - a little bit defiant, and a whole lot fashion. Daring, but we into it.
