Meghan Markle Finally Gets That Princess Title, Thanks to Baby Archie

The world has been all about baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor since he arrived on May 6. In the ensuing days, we’ve gotten to see him in his first-ever photocall and television interview, heard from his parents about what his temperament is like and he’s gotten to meet the rest of his royal family. Now, we’ve got even more intel on the littlest Windsor in the form of his newly-released birth certificate. There are lots of goodies listed on there, but the one detail that’s caught our eye is the official name listed for his mother, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

According to People magazine, Meghan is listed as “a Princess of the United Kingdom” on Archie’s birth certificate alongside his dad, Prince Harry, whose official royal title is likely listed on it as well. This is one of the rare occasions when we get to see Meghan referred to as a princess, although she is technically not referred to as a princess because she was not a British-born “blood” princess, so to speak. However, given who her husband is and her position in the royal family, she is still noted as a princess on her son’s birth certificate, just like her sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is listed on the birth certificates of her three kids.

Other interesting items mentioned on the birth certificate, which was made public on Friday morning, include the fact that Archie was born at a private Portland hospital in Westminster in London. The hospital also counts Sarah Ferguson and Victoria Beckham among the many moms who’ve given birth there. A Westminster official reportedly visited Meghan and Harry at their home, Frogmore Cottage, to register Archie’s birth certificate 11 days after he was born (children born in the U.K. must be registered no more than 42 days after they’re born).

Archie’s arrival is just one of a few exciting things happening in Meghan and Harry’s lives right now — although it’s arguably the best. Meghan is already dipping her toes back into work as she and Harry prepare for Archie’s christening, the details of which have yet to be announced. Even better, Meghan and Harry will also be celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 19.
