Meghan Markle Kicks Off Her Royal Tour of Africa in a Patterned Wrap Dress

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially kicked off their royal tour in Africa today, arriving in Cape Town (on a commercial flight) with baby Archie. And royal fashion watchers know what a royal tour means: So. Many. Outfits.

Instead of doing a big red-carpet arrival at the airport, the royals made their first public appearance in the Nuyanga township to meet with a group called The Justice Desk, which, per its website, works to "educate, train, advocate for, and equip youth, vulnerable groups, civil society, and governments in human rights, justice, and advocacy" in "vulnerable communities." Markle wore a patterned wrap dress that Meghan's Mirror identified as from Mayamiko, an ethical and sustainable fashion brand that makes pieces inspired by African textile traditions that are manufactured in Malawi.

The brand says its "textiles are handpicked especially for you from the local fabrics market in Malawi" and that it "works with a local cooperative of women traders to source the most exclusive prints and they are only enough to produce a very limited number of pieces."

Mayamiko's clothing is also created on demand, so as not to produce waste. While the duchess and Archie will be staying in South Africa, Harry will be traveling to Malawi during the tour, so the dress is a nice nod to that country—as well as keeping in line with Markle's focus on sustainability in fashion. (The duchess's exact dress, the Dalitso Maxi Wrap, is currently sold out.)

She paired the dress with her Castañer's Carina espadrilles, which she also wore during the couple's royal tour in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tongo.

Those are still in stock at Amazon, Shopbop, and MyTheresa.

We'd say the duchess is off to a great start with this look. Depending on the event schedule, on any given day over the 10-day tour (which wraps up on October 2), Markle could change clothes multiple times, so there's plenty more to get excited about on the royal fashion front.
