From Town & Country

There was a lot to take in during Meghan Markle's surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards last night: the vampy nail polish, the striking black dress, the ultra-dramatic spotlight in the background. So you'd be forgiven if you didn't notice the touching tribute to her father-in-law woven into Markle's look.

The Duchess was wearing sleek gold bangles and stud earrings from the label Pippa Small, which were ethically made by artisans of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Afghanistan, an organization supported by Prince Charles. The brand shared the news on Instagram, explaining that the Foundation works "to train and employ young men and women in conflict areas."

Meghan has often championed ethical brands (see her Veja sustainable sneakers, or her Outland denim jeans), but this fashion choice was likely motivated by her close relationship with Charles.

"The wedding was a real turning point" in their friendship, a source in the royal family told Vanity Fair. "Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage. The bond between them is very close... [Charles has] a real soft spot for her and thinks she’s the best thing to have happened to Harry."

Recently, we learned that Charles even has a framed photo of himself walking Meghan down the aisle at her and Harry's royal wedding. As rumors swirl that Meghan may not have endeared herself to every member of the royal family, their future patriarch has her back.
