Meghan Markle’s character is being questioned after a report from the U.K.’s The Times claimed she bullied a palace adviser.

The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma,” a spokesperson for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wrote in a statement obtained by People. “She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

The Times alleges Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s former communications secretary, Jason Knauf, filed a complaint with Prince William’s private secretary accusing her of driving two personal assistants out of the palace and undermining another one. (This is not the first time that palace staffers—not necessarily those who have worked with her—have aired complaints about Meghan, most of them ridiculous, to the press.)

Soon after the story was published in The Times, the couple’s spokesperson responded. “Let’s just call this what it is—a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation,” they told The Times, per People. “We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet. It’s no coincidence that distorted several-year-old accusations aimed at undermining The Duchess are being briefed to the British media shortly before she and The Duke are due to speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry chatted with Oprah Winfrey in an interview set to air Sunday, March 7, on CBS. This isn’t the first time the British media has attempted to smear Meghan Markle, but she’ll finally be able to tell her side of the story in the upcoming interview. No topic was off-limits during the two-hour sit-down, and if recent teasers are any indication, Markle and Prince Harry don’t hold anything back.
