Meghan Markle's Mother Doria Ragland Was Seen Handing Out Blankets to Fire Victims in California
Thanksgiving is still more than a week away, but Doria Ragland is already getting into the spirit. Ragland—who happens to be Meghan Markle's mother—was photographed handing out blankets to Californians displaced by the recent spate of fires.
Diez Minutos reported the news, and published a series of photographs showing Doria carrying heavy-duty blankets, presumably to pass them out. Doria is a longtime Los Angeles resident, and must know well the damage that a bad fire season (as this one is proving to be) can have on homes and livelihoods.
The Duchess's mother has long been known to have a charitable side. She has experience as a social worker, and (according to Meghan) raised her daughter to understand the importance of giving back.
Meghan opened up about her mother's influence on the Tig, her now-defunct lifestyle blog, back in 2016. "Both my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot," she wrote, "buying turkeys for homeless shelters at Thanksgiving, delivering meals to patients in hospice care, donating any spare change in their pocket to those asking for it, and performing quiet acts of grace—be it a hug, a smile, or a pat on the back to show ones in need that they would be alright."
Doria had the chance to show this side to royal watchers back in 2018, when she joined Meghan and Prince Harry for the launch of Meghan's cookbook. (The project benefitted Hubb Kitchen, and was Meghan's first solo charity initiative as a royal.) Doria spoke about "The power of women," explaining, "We make things happen. We're curious, we say yes, we show up. I'm inspired."
