Meijer online shopping suffers outage, now restored

The online shopping tool for regional grocery store chain Meijer was down for several hours, but has been restored, according to the supermarket chain.

"We are currently unable to process any credit cards. Thank you for your patience as we work to quickly resolve this," a post on the corporation's website read this morning.

As of 11 a.m., both debit and credit cards were functioning at the Lake Lansing Road Meijer.

In a statement, a Meijer spokesperson said the issue was a technical one with their processing partner, Chase Bank.

"Chase had a brief issue this morning with its processing systems affecting multiple retailers. When it happened, we quickly switched to cash/credit only at our stores (no PIN/debit) to protect our customers," the statement said. "The issue has since been solved by Chase and our stores have returned to accepting all types of payment."

Some shoppers in the Detroit area were overcharged on purchases last month, according to the Detroit Free Press. A Meijer spokesperson said the charges were also from technical issues with Chase.
