The Augusta-area is back on the big screen. Mel Gibson's spy thriller "Agent Game" was released on April 8, but, as of April 13, is not screening in any local movie theaters. However, it is available on demand.

Gibson plays a CIA officer on the run after being scapegoated for the death of an interrogation subject. The movie is set in and around Washington, D.C., but was filmed in parts of Augusta, Evans and Thomson, which is why, for the parts shot in downtown Augusta, the Augusta University office tower was flying Virginia's state flag in place of Georgia's.

Other recognizable landmarks remain, including shots that distinctly show Augusta-area buildings and their names, like the Miller Theater and the Augusta Museum of History. River Place Condominiums, the pink tower on Augusta's waterfront, is also visible.

Some area businesses also got screen time, like Jordan Trotter Commercial Real Estate, whose banner could be glimpsed in the background. At one point, Gibson is standing at the intersection of Broad and Seventh streets, and he shoots at a Flowers on Broad delivery van.

Entertainment news:

The film's first week is off to a rocky start, critically. As of Wednesday, the Rotten Tomatoes critics score was 9% and the audience score was 47%. It also had an IMDb rating of 3.9 out of 10.

Starring alongside Gibson is "Harry Potter" series actor Jason Isaacs, "Arrow" actress Katie Cassidy and "My Best Friend's Wedding" actor Dermot Mulroney.
