Melania Trump defends her blood red Christmas trees

Melania Trump doesn't care what you think of her morbid Christmas decorations. She likes them.

On Wednesday morning, after the internet dragged the first lady's selection of White House Christmas decorations — mainly those 40 blood red trees that looked like they came straight out of The Shining — she came to their defense and explained they look beautiful in person.

"We are in 21st century and everybody has a different taste," Trump said while speaking at Liberty University. "I think they look fantastic."

In case you need a refresher, these are the trees that received the brunt of this year's White House holiday backlash. Very red indeed.

But Melania doesn't seem to mind the color or the haters. She's standing by her bold decorating decision and hopes people will make an effort to see the trees for themselves, up close and personal, rather than in meme form.

"I hope everybody will come over and visit it," she said. "In real life, they look even more beautiful and you're all very welcome to visit the White House."

This year's White House holiday theme is "American Treasures," and though a bunch of Twitter users felt the decorations super dark and creepy, the Trump family aimed to "honor the heart and spirit of the American people."

The White House's 2017 decorations were criticized too, so maybe third year's the charm?
