Melania Trump unveils new line of $50 NFTs

Melania Trump isn't giving up on nonfungible tokens (NFTs), launching a new collection that will highlight "iconic moments from President Trump's administration."

The former first lady announced the release of the "POTUS NFT Collection" on Thursday.

The "limited-edition collection" of NFTs will include 10,000 of the items, each on sale for $50.

"Collectors will enjoy an element of surprise, as the artwork of each NFT is revealed only after purchase," a news release stated. "Of course, collectors can make multiple purchases to own the entire POTUS Trump Collection."

Melania Trump "provided creative direction" for the digital collection, which is timed to go on sale on the site USAmemorabilia.com on Monday to coincide with Presidents Day.

"I am proud to expand upon my NFT platform and am honored to be able to recognize important moments in our Nation's history," she said in a statement. "I look forward to collaborating with others to offer truly special, authentic parts of U.S. history."

The launch is the latest attempt by the former executive mansion residents to cash in on the potentially lucrative yet volatile NFT market.

In December, Trump announced an auction for an NFT of "breathtaking watercolor art," selling a painting depicting her eyes along with an audio message. In January, she auctioned a white hat along with digital and watercolor paintings of herself as part of another "historic auction," with a starting bid of $250,000.

She said at the time that a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the auction would be "donated to support children in the foster care community."

The winner of the NFT sale last month appeared to be Trump herself - a blockchain wallet belonging to the creator of the auction placed the winning bid, according to Bloomberg News.
