Melbourne Zoo Returns Hand-Raised Baby Monkey to His Family

An endangered primate has been returned to his family after being successfully hand-raised by a team of keepers and doctors at Melbourne Zoo.

Footage from the zoo shows the baby black-handed spider monkey, named Izumi, who was cared for by specialists after he was left on his own at six weeks, an “early and critical stage of his infancy,” the zoo said.

Zoo veterinarians and primate keepers worked in shifts to bottle-feed and care for Izumi, before he was reunited with his family. Credit: Melbourne Zoo via Storyful
