Melissa & Doug's first toy store, with interactive space for kids, to open in Westchester

WHITE PLAINS − The Westchester mall will soon house a new fun place for children as toy maker Melissa & Doug is set to open its first-ever retail store.

The store will open its doors Oct. 6 at a 1,600-square-foot space on Level 3. There will be prize giveaways and product demonstrations on its opening day.

As the Connecticut-based company’s first brick-and-mortar location in its 35-year history, Melissa & Doug will feature the brand’s popular toys and new products, including play sets, learning toys, puzzles, arts and crafts. The store will also offer an interactive space where children find take-home activities and can measure how many “scoops of ice cream” tall they are.

Company spokesperson Jess Kuring said the store is designed in a way for customers to touch and see products that online shopping cannot offer. In-store brand ambassadors will help find “the perfect” toy for each shopper, Kuring said.

When the company decided to open its flagship store, the plan was to find a location that is highly trafficked and has premium shopping environment in the tristate region, with proximity to its headquarter in Wilton, Conn. Kuring said a vacant storefront at The Westchester mall had all the criteria.

“Consumers will be able to see many of our top toys out of packaging so they can experience all of the special design details and highly quality materials,” Kuring said.
