Melt Bar And Grill To Close In Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Melt Bar and Grilled in Cleveland Heights will close permanently, the company announced Sunday.

The restaurant's lease expires at the end of the year, Melt owner Matt Fish said. With the uncertain economic conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Fish decided to close the restaurant permanently.

"This was our second Melt location and was received with lots of excitement and enthusiasm. The location, at the corner of Cedar and South Taylor, near the Cedar Lee Theater, University Circle and great museums, fit our concept perfectly and really helped Melt transform from a funky neighborhood place that served gourmet comfort food and great beer, to a true restaurant group," Fish said.

The restaurant opened in Cleveland Heights in 2010, to much fanfare. When the pandemic hit Ohio, leading to a ban on indoor dining, takeout and delivery kept Melt afloat, according to Cleveland Scene.

However, when outdoor dining season began the Cleveland Heights Melt saw its finances take a nosedive. The Heights location is one of only two Melt stores without outdoor dining.

Fish said he is now helping the building's landlord find a new tenant.

"We loved being a part of the Cleveland Heights community and want to thank our loyal Melt fans – we have cherished the last decade and thank you all for your support!" Fish said.

The restaurant's other locations are doing well, Fish said in an email to customers.
