Memorial Day barbecue costs are higher this year with inflation

Memorial Day is traditionally the beginning of summer and barbeque season.

But as food prices continue to rise many shoppers are cutting back on everything from hot dogs, and burgers to buns.

Consumers can expect to pay about nine percent more than last year for family-sized barbeque essentials. According to the consumer price index, inflation rose almost 4% just last month.

Some shoppers said they have cut back on their list this Memorial Day because prices are much higher than in past holiday weekends.

“It wasn’t half of what we normally get on the last holiday. It’s got to be about inflation,” one Orange County shopper said.

“But even with the big jump in prices, some consumers at local supermarkets in the Orlando areas this Memorial said they are still willing to dig deeper into their pockets to make sure they get the items on their list checked off.

“It’s still important to enjoy some time with family and friends this holiday weekend.” commented one Orlando shopper. “I expected it because everything is expensive right now. I mean, it’s a shame, but you got to do what you got to do,” she added.
