The ceremony includes the reading of each deceased Aurora veteran's name and the presentation of military honors

Meanwhile, city officials have announced the splash pad’s season-opening day will be May 28, with daily hours – weather permitting – being from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is located on West Pioneer Trail beside Fire Station 1.

Anyone wishing additional information about the splash pad should call the parks and recreation department at 330-562-4333.

The city safety forces’ bicycle rodeo will be June 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Leighton Elementary School parking lot.

Deadline to register is June 1. A registration form can be found at www.auroraoh.com/472/Community-Events, and it must be completed and returned to the police station. There is no charge to participate.

Participants should bring their own bikes, and should check the police department’s Facebook page for up-to-date information. Further details are available from Officer Vicki Yendriga at 330-562-8181.

Document shredding day for Aurorans will be June 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brown-Keidel Service Center off West Pioneer Trail.

The service is free for city residents, and there is a limit of six boxes of documents per family. On-site shredding will be done. For further information, call 330-562-6131.

The annual fishing derby will be June 18 at the south end of Sunny Lake (the boathouse), with check-in at 8 a.m. (registration is required), competition at 9 a.m. and awards presentations at 11.

The costs for Aurorans are: family up to four members, $10; individuals, $5; and additional family members over four, $3. For non-residents, the respective costs are $15, $10 and $5.

One dozen baits are provided per family. Only fishing hooks can be used, and fish must be released after measurements are taken. Participants must bring their own fishing rods and buckets. Trophies will be awarded for age groups from 5 and under to 19 and older.

The city’s summer concerts at Veterans Memorial Park will begin June 9. All are at 6:30 p.m. except for June 27 and Sept. 17 (1 p.m. each).

The bands which will perform are: June 9, Post Road; June 16, LaFlavour; June 27, Celebration; July 14, Ricky and the Rockets; July 28, Chardon Polka Band; and Sept. 17,

Two drive-up concerts will be at 6:30 p.m. at Hartman Park. July 21 will feature Clocktower and Aug. 6 will feature the Josh Gilbert Band.
