Blissfield

Memorial Day services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at the Blissfield Cemetery, just south of the Holmes-Coshocton county line off of state Route 60. Killbuck VFW Post 7079 will conduct military graveside services in honor of Michael Didinger of Millersburg, who died Dec. 14, 2021. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.

Keynote speaker is Ken Smailes, local historian and pastor. The Walhonding Rube Band will provide music. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Blissfield United Methodist Church.

Creston, Burbank

The Creston Post of the American Legion announced the schedule of Memorial Day observances at Burbank and Creston cemeteries on May 30. Observances will commence at Burbank cemetery at 9:30 a.m. A parade in Creston will commence at 11 a.m.  from the site of the former Creston elementary school concluding at Creston cemetery where observances will be held.

Killbuck

Killbuck’s parade will begin at 10 a..m. Monday from the VFW and will be led by the VFW Post 7079 members and the West Holmes Marching Band. They will march to the Killbuck Cemetery to hold memorial services.  The National Anthem  will be provided  by Toni Shreve and the West Holmes marching band.

Glenmont

Glenmont’s parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday from the Glenmont School Building and will be led by the VFW Post 7079 members and the West Holmes marching band.

Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, Dundee, Ragersville

Memorial Day services, sponsored by Homer Weiss Post 494 of the American Legion, Sugarcreek, have been scheduled for Monday, May 30. A ceremony will be held at 7:45 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Walnut Creek. An honors ceremony will be held at the Dundee Cemetery at about 8:30-8:40 a.m.

The Sugarcreek ceremony will be at Eastlawn Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., followed by a short ceremony around 10:30 a.m. at Union Hill Cemetery, at the grave of Homer Weiss, to honor veterans buried there. Post 494 will then go to Ragersville Cemetery for services. A service will be held in Baltic at 10:30 a.m.

Wooster

A parade, forming at the Wayne County Fairgrounds at 8:30 a.m., will lead off the Memorial Day program in Wooster at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30. The parade route will be out the gate at Vanover and Liberty streets, east on Liberty Street to Public Square then south on Market Street past Wooster Brush County and then out to Wooster Cemetery. The ceremony will be held after units are in and up to the Veterans Memorial. The ceremony lasts 40-50 minutes. There will be a flyover by Air Force F-16s.

Beach City

Beach City American Legion Post 549 will hold a Memorial Day parade and ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30. The parade will begin at the Beach City Community Park, ending at the cemetery. Desert Storm/Purple Heart veteran Larry Glasgow will be the speaker.

The public is welcome to participate in the parade. Line-up will start at 9 a.m. at the park. No political parties will be accepted. A free community lunch will be provided at the Legion Hall following the memorial services until 1 p.m.

Millersburg

American Legion Post 192 will hold a Memorial Day parade and ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 30. The Color Guard will honor Peter Myers, a hero who served in three wars in a graveside service at 8:30 at the Clay Street Park.

The parade, featuring the West Holmes marching band, will begin at 9 a.m. and proceed to Oak Hill Cemetery. A presentation featuring US Army veteran and Holmes County Veterans Services Director Brandon Irving will take place at the cemetery, along with a gun volley and presentation by the color guard. The color guard will then head to Fryburg Cemetery on County Road 201 for a brief salute to veterans.

Berlin

Berlin will hold a Memorial Day parade and ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30. The Hiland High School marching band will step off from the Berlin Elementary School and meet up with veterans who wish to march at the First Baptist Church and head to the Berlin Township Cemetery for the presentation by US Army veteran and Holmes County Veterans Services Director Brandon Irving.
