A summertime three-day weekend (some call it five) in South Florida should offer a little more elbow room and can be an opportunity to try something different, go someplace you’ve never been, to linger over brunch or a cocktail, to catch your breath (not easy, thanks to the Heat and Panthers). Here are some ideas.

THURSDAY

New restaurant:This is opening weekend for American Social Bar & Kitchen in Boca Raton’s Mizner Park, adding an elevated sports-pub dining option for lunch, brunch and dinner, and a buzzy late-night watering hole to Plaza Real’s bustling nightlife. If you’ve been to the Fort Lauderdale AmSo on Las Olas and think you know what to expect, maybe not. The Boca location is showcasing a thoroughly revised new menu. Brunch is Saturday and Sunday. Visit AmericanSocialBar.com.

Listen to the music:With both of the band’s iconic vocalists, Tom Johnston and Michael McDonald, joining founding guitarist Patrick Simmons, The Doobie Brothers bring their 50th anniversary tour to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood at 8 p.m. Thursday. Scattered seats remain, starting at $75+. Visit MyHRL.com.

He’s the Man: By popular demand, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco this week added a third show at Hard Rock Live on July 22. Tickets are on sale now starting at $65+. Scattered tickets can still be found for Maniscalco’s Hard Rock performances on July 20 and July 21. Visit MyHRL.com.

Country rowdy:Tortuga Music Festival alum Jon Langston brings his Let’s Get Rowdy Tour to country bar Renegades in West Palm Beach on Thursday night. Expect Langston’s recent single, “Beers Got Drank,” to be a major sing-along. Tickets for the 18-and-older show cost $20 (VIP tables and meet-and-greet available). Doors open at 6 p.m. Visit RenegadesWPB.com.

FRIDAY

Wine from Spain:The gents at Sidewalk Bottle Shop in Fort Lauderdale’s up-and-coming Progresso neighborhood on Friday will host another of their popular meet-the-winemaker parties, this one dedicated to the small Spanish winery Bodegas Coruña Del Conde. Álvaro de la Viña of Brooklyn-based wine importer Selections de la Viña will be on hand, and there will be Spanish tapas to pair with the wine. The party runs from 8 to 10 p.m. Visit Instagram.com/sidewalk.bottleshop.

New music:Singer-songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins (“Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” remains one of the most earwormy hits of the ’90s ) brings music from her critically praised new album “Free Myself” to the intimate Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton at 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets start at $30+ for standing room. Visit FunkyBiscuit.com.

Ticket window:Grammy-winning country heartthrob Keith Urban is coming to Hard Rock Live on Oct. 21. Tickets (starting at $75+) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at MyHRL.com. A venue presale can be found on the Hard Rock’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Downtown country: The Nashville Hits the Roof concert series brings the Outlaw Apostles from Muscle Shoals, Ala., to the Tin Roof in Delray Beach at 8 p.m. Friday (TinRoofDelrayBeach.com) and in Fort Lauderdale at 8:30 p.m. Saturday (TinRoofFtLauderdale.com). The all-ages shows are free.

Weekend movie:The irreverent cineastes at Popcorn Frights will host a screening of “Natural Born Killers” — featuring Woody Harrelson (a career-changing role) and Juliette Lewis, directed by Oliver Stone from a story by Quentin Tarantino (with a Trent Reznor soundtrack) — at 10 p.m. Friday at the Classic Gateway Theatre in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $9+ at PopcornFrights.com.

Home shopping: The annual Palm Beach Home Design and Remodeling Show rolls out at the Palm Beach County Convention Center through Monday, with more than 100,000 square feet of exhibitors. The celebrity guest is Josh Flagg of Bravo TV’s “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles,” perhaps scouting locations for a Palm Beach County version of the show? Admission is $14 per day. Visit Facebook.com/FLHomeShows.

Weekend laughs: Comedian and actor Felipe Esparza, a winner of “Last Comic Standing” (2010) and seen most recently on “The Eric Andre Show,” NBC’s “Superstore” and the 2020 Netflix special “Bad Decisions” (also recorded in Spanish as “Malas Decisiones”) has multiple performances at the Miami Improv from Friday through Sunday. Tickets start at $25+ at MiamiImprov.com. … As seen on Bill Burr’s “Friends Who Kill,” Canadian stand-up Steph Tolev also has performances Friday through Sunday at Dania Improv. Tickets cost $22+ at DaniaImprov.com.

No joke: The Palm Beach Improv abruptly closed its longtime home at The Square in West Palm Beach last weekend, with social media posts citing “new development plans” at the downtown center. The club says an announcement regarding a new location is coming “soon.” Visit Instagram.com/pbimprov. In the meantime, performances by actor-comedian Michael Yo scheduled for June 9 to 11 will now take place on a sister stage, the Dania Improv. Visit DaniaImprov.com.

SUNDAY

Brunch by Grenier: The long weekend means you get to linger longer over Sunday brunch, splurge a little, maybe go bottomless. Worth noting: Buzzy chef Adrienne Grenier, a local with national bonafides after winning the Food Network competition “Chopped,” recently took over the kitchen at Burlock Coast at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. Grenier returns to South Florida after helping to open well-regarded Brooklyn cafe Pasta Louise. The Hollywood native made her name locally as executive chef of 3030 Ocean at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, and prior to that worked at 1500 Degrees (named one of the Best New Restaurants in the country by Esquire) under her mentor, chef Paula DaSilva. Brunch at Burlock Coast is offered from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Consider Zak’s Brioche French Toast with caramelized peaches and cream, and brioche by Zak the Baker ($23). Bottomless mimosas, bellinis and bloodies cost $39. Visit BurlockCoast.com.

Purple sage: It’s Prom Night on Sunday at venerable West Palm Beach nightclub Respectable Street, with ‘80s Purple Prom — Prince Edition beginning at 9 p.m. and featuring local ’80s cover band The Rick Rollers. Admission: $5 advance, $10 at the door. Dress code: Cheesy. Prom king and queen: Crowned. Punch: spiked. Visit RespectableStreet.com.

LOOKING AHEAD

One night to circle is June 5, when the usual Trivia Night will have a unique first-place prize: Free beer for a year. That’s like money, only better. Visit FunkyBuddha.com.

Spirit of LeBron: Continuing the spirited vibe from its 2022 debut, Mezcal Lauderdale will return from June 2 to 5, this time celebrating tequila’s daring cousin at Canyon in downtown Fort Lauderdale, where a recent renovation included the intimate tequila bar called Rio’s.
