Memorial fund set up by family to honor late Tuscaloosa News columnist Cecil Hurt
The family of Cecil Hurt has set up a memorial fund in conjunction with the University of Alabama to honor the memory of the late sports columnist for The Tuscaloosa News.
Hurt, who died this week from complications from pneumonia at 62, covered UA sports for nearly 40 years at The Tuscaloosa News. He was hired in 1982 and became the newspaper's sports editor and columnist in 1987. Born in Tuscaloosa, Hurt was a graduate of the University of Alabama.
