Memorial Held at Camp Lejeune for Marine Killed in Kabul

Marines remembered Sgt Nicola Gee at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, during a memorial service on August 30. Gee was one of 13 US service members killed in an attack at Kabul airport on August 27.

The attack left more than 170 people dead, and hundreds wounded.

Gee, a 23-year-old sergeant from Roseville, California, posted a picture of herself holding an Afghan infant on August 21. “I love my job,” she said in the caption.

After her death, she was celebrated as a hero in her hometown, local news said. A GoFundMe page set up to cover funeral expenses had reached $180,000 by September 3.
