Skylar Maddox, 25, was killed Tuesday in a hit-and-run incident on Providence Road.

There is a celebration of life in memorial of Maddox scheduled for 2-4 p.m. next Tuesday at Waves Cider Company at 604 Nebraska Ave., according to a Facebook post by Gilbane Motorsports, where Maddox was employed.

There have been two GoFundMe fundraisers started to support Maddox's family. One had raised nearly $13,000 as of Friday afternoon to assist in offsetting expenses for Maddox's funeral arrangements. Another to help the family with arrangements and "bills and necessities while they take time to grieve" had raised about $3,000.

Maddox was riding his motorcycle on his way home to his girlfriend, Katie, after finishing a shift at work when the accident occurred less than a mile from the shop, according to the Gilbane Motorsports Facebook post.

"Skylar was a kind, bright young man," organizer Chris Redding wrote in a GoFundMe post. "He was friendly, warm, a good mechanic and excellent rider. He was well-liked and will be missed terribly."

Susan D. Hanel, 72, failed to yield when making a left turn from northbound Providence Road onto East Sexton Road in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, driving into Maddox's path, the Columbia Police Department reported.

Maddox was traveling southbound on his Kawasaki Ninja 500R when he was unable to avoid Hanel's vehicle. He wearing a helmet when the two collided, police said.

Hanel was impaired by drugs and driving with an expired driver's license, police said. She was arrested at her home after leaving the scene.

She is being held at the Boone County Jail.
