Memorial scholarship fund in Lebanon Supt. Arthur Abrom's name seeks donations

A gofundme has been set up to establish an endowed scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Arthur Abrom, superintendent of Lebanon School District, who died Sunday, Sept. 24, surrounded by his family.

The memorial scholarship fund was set up in lieu of flowers by Abrom's family, with aims to keep his spirit alive for generations.

With a $100,000 goal, the fund will be used specifically for students pursuing college degrees in education or music, two things about which Abrom was deeply passionate.

At the time of writing, the gofundme had over 100 donations with over $9,000 raised.

The gofundme can be found at gofundme.com/f/dr-arthur-abrom-memorial-scholarship-fund.

During Friday night's homecoming football game, a moment of silence for Abrom will be held, according to Nicole Malinoski, assistant to the superintendent.

Amanda Abrom, one of Abrom's daughters, wrote on behalf of her sisters, Emily and Hope and their mother, Joanne, in the gofundme post.

"During the past nine years, we watched as he valiantly battled cancer with unwavering determination and grace. He demonstrated power in the face of adversity and resilience with kindness, courage and faith," she wrote.

Abrom dedicated 20 years to the School District of Lancaster, holding several roles including director of elementary education, director of student services, coordinator of school improvement and federal programs, and the principle of Lafayette Elementary School.

In 2017, Abrom joined Lebanon School District as superintendent, immediately working on five priorities for the district's 5,000-plus students: community connections, data-driven culture, college and career readiness, student-centeredness and a culture of reading.

He was instrumental in building a new junior high school, set to open in August of 2024, with the goal of alleviating overcrowding at Lebanon Middle School.

Born July 20, 1967 in Hackensack, New Jersey, Abrom earned his bachelors degree in music education at Susquehanna University and Berklee College of Music, his masters in education at Arizona State University, and his doctorate in education from Widener University, according to his obituary.

"Dad loved music and the arts. He was a man of great faith and enjoyed serving in church as a musician. He played 5 instruments; loved to play golf; served on the worship team; was an avid NY Giants fan; and traveled together with us all over the world. He loved his family and encouraged others to put God and family first," Amanda Abrom wrote.

Abrom's family will be receiving guests for a viewing serceive on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory located at 3110 Lititz Pike from 1-5 p.m. A service will follow at 6 p.m.
