Halloween safety tips

Along with the rankings, Life360 shared recommendations for making sure everyone stays safe for Halloween.

  • Share location with loved ones: Going to a big or new neighborhood? Share your location with other friends and family.

  • Have a plan in case something does happen: Have places that your children know to meet at should you end up separated. This can also work for adults and older teens. Make sure that your children know who is okay to talk to and who isn't. Write your phone number on a band to put on your children's wrists, so they can reach you when needed.

  • Party safe to stay safe: This tip is more for young adults and adults without children. Make sure that someone is responsible for driving or calling a car to get you. Always have a designated driver. The best way to stay safe is to not let yourself or your friends get too inebriated during Halloween festivities.

  • Teach children to never go enter a home when trick-or-treating: Even though this seems like common sense to adults, children are typically trusting of other adults, so you should always explicitly say what is and isn't allowed.

Remain aware during these Halloween activities

While the following are fun activities to do with the family, remember that being in crowded areas means you and your family should be on alert at all times.

  1. Corn mazes

  2. Pumpkin patches

  3. Zoo-boo

  4. Trick-or-treating

When is trick-or-treating?

The City of Memphis and Shelby County do not regulate when trick-or-treating occurs. It will be up to the neighborhoods if they want to have it on a different night, but it can be assumed that the majority of trick-or-treaters will be out on Halloween night.

In terms of when the festivities will start, trick-or-treating usually starts around sunset. The sun is predicted to set a little after 6 p.m. on Halloween night.
